Otter.ai raises $320 million from General Catalyst's growth fund for its meeting tool.

Otter.ai raises $320 million from General Catalyst's growth fund for its meeting tool. 4:00 AM PDT · October 20, 2026 Meeting note-taking tool Otter.ai announced on Tuesday that it has raised $320 million from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund (CVF), which provides capital to startups without diluting equity and gets returns on the results of marketing spend. Otter.ai said that it will use these funds for enterprise growth, go-to-market strategy, international expansion, and product innovation. The startup, which has been around for nearly a decade, has raised $50 million in total funding with its last round in 2021, according to PitchBook data. Last year, Otter hit a revenue milestone after crossing $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). The company said it's now approaching new milestones, but didn't provide updated figures. The company said that 40 million users have used its product to date, up from 25 million last year. However, given the crowded space among meeting note-taking products, a pertinent challenge for Otter would be to have its customers stick around. Unfortunately, the startup didn't provide any numbers around its monthly active users or churn. "Voice is one of the biggest untapped opportunities in enterprise AI, and Otter is at the forefront of it - a conviction that's only deepened watching Otter's growth," said Pranav Singhvi, Partner and Co-founder of CVF, General Catalyst. "When Otter enables enterprises to capture critical voice data and turns it into actionable business insights, teams move faster, decisions get sharper, and productivity compounds across the organization, and that's why it's a strong partner for CVF." There is a lot of competition in the market with well-funded meeting notetakers like Fireflies.ai, Granola, and Read AI; new entrants like Calendly, Wispr, and Superhuman, which acquired Fathom; and other notetakers like Circleback, Talat, and Quill. Equity Live: The Startup Stories Shaping 2026 Most of these notetakers want to connect to enterprise systems and, based on data captured in meetings, automate workflows. Otter is also heading in that direction. In the last few years, it introduced a meeting assistant, a search function that works across apps, and integration with other AI tools. Otter's newly appointed CMO, Alex Gay, who comes from Superhuman, told TechCrunch at a sit-down at the HumanX conference last month that the company sees a big opportunity in turning transcripts into an actionable roadmap for people who are in back-to-back meetings. "When we start thinking about what is actually the bigger problem that people are facing right now, we saw this large pain point in meeting-heavy roles, where people are back-to-back in conversations. These meetings are the work for them. That's either customer conversations or, from a sales standpoint. That's where strategies are discussed. But meetings are terribly inefficient because when you come into a meeting, you spend the first twenty minutes recapping what was said before to catch everybody up," he said. The company is now experimenting with providing insights before, after, and during meetings. It has been testing a feature to send a pre-brief to users with details and background information, with context from previous conversations across surfaces. Plus, it is also trying out a Live Assist feature to let users ask questions to the AI assistant during the meeting to get knowledge. Superhuman opens new Seattle office, joining wave of AI companies expanding in the region.

Superhuman opens new Seattle office, joining wave of AI companies expanding in the region. by Todd Bishop on Oct 6, 2026 at 10:37 am Superhuman, the San Francisco company formerly known as Grammarly, opened a 13,501-square-foot office in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood on Tuesday, moving out of a coworking space and giving itself room to hire. The office, at 1000 Dexter Ave. N., is opening with 50 workstations and can hold up to 80, a Superhuman representative told GeekWire via email. Superhuman plans to keep hiring in Seattle for data engineering, data governance and data science roles. Its careers page lists 12 open positions that can be based in Seattle, including software engineering, site reliability and product management jobs. The company joins a growing list of out-of-town AI companies expanding in the region in search of technical talent, including OpenAI in Bellevue and Anthropic in Seattle. Grammarly acquired the Superhuman email app in July 2025 and renamed the whole company after it that October. Its CEO is Shishir Mehrotra, a former Microsoft and YouTube executive who co-founded the collaborative documents startup Coda. The company's suite of AI tools for work includes the Superhuman Go assistant, Mail, Docs and the Grammarly writing assistant. It has been expanding the lineup in part through acquisitions, announcing deals this year for AI detection startup GPTZero and meeting notetaker Fathom. According to the company, the Seattle office is set up for hybrid work under a program called "Ways of Working," which replaced a return-to-office mandate in January. U.S. employees choose two to five days a week in the office and get a quarterly wellness stipend ranging from $500 to as much as $2,000 depending on how often they come in, Entrepreneur reported. We've asked the company for more information, including how many people it employs in Seattle and who leads the office.

LinkedIn bought his startup for $15M — but stress put him in hospital at 27. Now his next company sold for $825M

Rahul Vohra was hospitalised at 27 from stress whilst preparing to sell his startup Rapportive to LinkedIn. The 2012 acquisition was reportedly valued at $15 million. Two years of poor diet, no exercise, and entrepreneurial pressure caused gastrointestinal reflux disease. A nurse told him his insides resembled someone decades older. During recovery, Vohra adopted transcendental meditation and overhauled his lifestyle. In 2014, he launched Superhuman, an AI email productivity suite. The company was valued at $825 million in 2021 and acquired by Grammarly in 2025. Vohra raised over $100 million for Superhuman before the sale, providing far more financial stability than his first venture. He maintains a daily meditation practice and healthier work habits.

GPTZero sold to Superhuman for at least $135M after hitting $30M in annual revenue

Edward Tian built GPTZero during his senior year winter break at Princeton, creating a tool to detect AI-generated writing. The site crashed within a week as 30,000 people rushed to use it. Less than four years later, GPTZero has over 20 million registered users and $30 million in annual recurring revenue. Superhuman, formerly known as Grammarly, acquired GPTZero in June for undisclosed terms. The deal represented at least a 10x return on the $13.5 million the company had raised. Tian, 26, and cofounder Alex Cui now lead Superhuman's authenticity team. Before GPTZero took off, Tian had accepted a fellowship with the New York Times' visual investigations team and studied under New Yorker writer John McPhee at Princeton. GPTZero's roughly 30 employees are being integrated into Superhuman's broader authenticity effort.
