Requirements
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
  • Thorough knowledge of other areas of human resources.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, including how work impacts other areas.
  • Thorough knowledge of union and labor contracts.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of employee relations practices and programs.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and demonstrated experience with conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle very difficult or volatile situations and individuals effectively.
  • Experience providing employee-relations-related support to assigned client groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting to support business decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience applying employee-relations-specific concepts.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
  • At least three years of relevant experience performing related employee and/or labor relations functions in a complex organization.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the union representation petition process, including accretions and new unit petitions, intake, tracking, communications, identification of statutory exclusions, and related training for internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with human resources teams and enterprise stakeholders to administer the petition process accurately, consistently, and timely in accordance with applicable legal and procedural requirements.
  • Coordinate requests for information from unions and public records requests by gathering, compiling, and responding to requests in compliance with applicable timelines and legal requirements.
  • Conduct workplace investigations, including intake, fact-finding, and documentation, in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Support the Workforce Relations investigations team by maintaining accurate and up-to-date case data entries in the ServiceNow platform.
  • Conduct due process (Skelly) hearings as assigned.
  • Support Workforce Relations Consultants with collective bargaining activities, including preparation, research, data gathering, and coordination.
  • Assist with drafting union notices in compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements and legal requirements.
  • Participate in strike planning and provide on-site support activities.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with human resources colleagues and organizational clients and serve as a reliable resource for assigned functional areas.
  • Apply employee relations expertise to address and resolve questions, concerns, and workplace matters for a diverse group of employees.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education or healthcare institution.
  • Experience in project management and/or applying lean process improvement methodologies.
  • Current Professional in Human Resources, Senior Professional in Human Resources, Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional, or Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional certification.
  • Association of Workplace Investigators certification.
