About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • At least 5 years of progressive Human Resources Generalist experience across the listed functional areas.
  • Direct experience working within a unionized workforce, with strong working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, grievance procedures, and labor law.
  • Proficiency with Human Resources Information Systems platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience identifying opportunities to improve Human Resources processes, systems, and the overall employee experience.
  • Prior experience in intercity bus transportation, passenger rail, transit authority, or comparable high-volume, multi-location transportation operations.
  • Experience supporting Department of Transportation-regulated employees and familiarity with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements.
  • Availability for full-time, Monday-Friday, in-office work in Chicago, Illinois, or Atlanta, Georgia, and travel to operational locations as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and driver for employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and manager enablement and coaching.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Support administration of compensation programs, including job evaluations, salary benchmarking, job descriptions and classifications, annual merit review processes, and union pay scales.
  • Administer end-to-end performance management cycles, including goal-setting, mid-year check-ins, annual evaluations, and progressive disciplinary processes.
  • Manage and serve as the point of contact for employee leave programs, including Family and Medical Leave Act leave, Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations, short-term and long-term disability, and personal leave.
  • Manage unemployment insurance claims and provide timely responses to state agencies.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of employee data in the Human Resources Information System, including employment changes, promotions, and status changes.
  • Manage pre-employment activities and the full onboarding experience, including background checks, Form I-9 verifications, and new-hire orientations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional in Human Resources, Senior Professional in Human Resources, Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional, or Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional certification.
  • Experience supporting multiple sites or geographically dispersed employee populations.
