About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, such as mechatronics, mechanical, electrical, or electronics engineering.
  • Approximately three or more years of experience designing and developing PLC programs and implementing and commissioning automated production lines in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge and experience with PLCs such as Siemens.
  • Business-level English for internal communication and communication with supervisors.
  • Japanese proficiency at N3 level or higher for communication with the shop floor.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, programming, and installation of new automated production lines and robotics.
  • Continuously improve existing manufacturing processes to reduce downtime, enhance quality, and increase throughput.
  • Ensure automation projects comply with Valeo production system standards, automotive industry regulations, and machine safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with R&D and other process members on design for manufacturing, design for assembly, and design for test.
  • Evaluate product concepts for automation feasibility and estimate cycle time, footprint, and preliminary investment cost.
  • Contribute to writing technical specifications.
  • Lead design reviews of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic schematics for upcoming automated cells.
  • Develop and simulate foundational programmable logic controller logic, human-machine interface screens, and robot trajectories before physical machine assembly.
  • Ensure proper hardware and software safety architecture, including safety zones and light curtains, in compliance with Valeo standards.
  • Define machine acceptance criteria and lead validation at suppliers and on the Valeo shop floor to ensure specifications are met.
  • Commission and integrate automated lines, taking ownership of programmable logic controller debugging, robot path teaching, and vision system calibration.
  • Conduct machine capability studies (Cpk/Cmk) and validate equipment against target cycle times, scrap rates, and quality standards before handover.
  • Integrate new equipment into Valeo plant networks, ensuring data flow to manufacturing execution systems and traceability databases.
  • Create work instructions and train operators and technicians on safe use and basic troubleshooting of automated systems.
  • Act as a technical expert for maintenance and production teams, troubleshooting complex, non-routine machine faults to minimize downtime.
  • Analyze overall equipment effectiveness data to identify micro-stops or bottlenecks and implement software or hardware upgrades to optimize cycle times, including in-house automation.
  • Manage engineering changes by modifying programmable logic controller code or robot programs for new part variants or quality improvements.
  • Manage safe decommissioning of automated cells at product end of life, assess legacy equipment including programmable logic controllers, robots, vision cameras, and servo drives for obsolescence, and coordinate repurposing valuable hardware for new projects.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of communication and integration with manufacturing execution systems and higher-level systems such as enterprise resource planning, core systems, and production management systems.
