About the Job

Requirements

  • Significant experience delivering large-scale industrial, mining, or process projects across feasibility, front-end engineering design, and execution.
  • A proven track record leading multidisciplinary teams in engineering, procurement, and construction management, integrated owner, or contractor environments.
  • A strong background in engineering management, design coordination, and project setup.
  • Experience in safety-in-design, technical assurance, and governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering and building information modeling environments, including Aveva E3D, Navisworks, and integrated data platforms.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the impact of engineering decisions on cost and delivery.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and detailed levels, including project setup, governance, issue resolution, and technical decisions.
  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology is required.
  • Extensive experience in geotechnical design for underground tunnels and shafts in soft ground and/or hard rock.
  • Strong understanding of ground behaviour, soil and rock mechanics, and geotechnical risk management.
  • Familiarity with tunnelling methods including tunnel boring machines, New Austrian Tunnelling Method, and sprayed concrete lining, as well as shaft sinking techniques.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software such as PLAXIS, FLAC, and GeoStudio, and in interpreting ground investigation data.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel within the United Kingdom and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive engineering delivery across feasibility, front-end engineering design, and execution phases, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient design aligned with cost, schedule, and technical outcomes.
  • Be accountable for end-to-end engineering performance, including scope, cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Set up and manage engineering for projects from early stage through execution.
  • Define engineering scope, deliverables, engineering work packages, and resource plans.
  • Lead safety-in-design and inherently safer design principles.
  • Run hazard identification studies and design risk reviews, and ensure close-out of residual risks.
  • Manage technical risk to protect programme and delivery certainty.
  • Establish and apply engineering management plans, basis of design, and design criteria.
  • Implement design assurance, review, and quality processes.
  • Manage peer reviews, stage gates, and technical decision workflows.
  • Lead design change control aligned with client, regulatory, and project requirements.
  • Track and drive engineering performance using deliverable tracking, earned value, and issue management.
  • Intervene early on slippage and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain alignment between engineering outputs and the project schedule.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across locations, including discipline leads, subject-matter experts, consultants, and workshare centres.
  • Drive accountability, performance, and delivery culture.
  • Coach and develop capability within the team, supporting succession and growth.
  • Deploy and manage digital engineering environments, including Aveva E3D, Navisworks, and systems aligned with ISO 19650.
  • Lead model federation and three-dimensional/four-dimensional design reviews.
  • Use digital tools to support constructability, design integration, and lifecycle traceability.
  • Plan and lead multidisciplinary design reviews, including concept, 30/60/90%, and model reviews.
  • Ensure designs meet requirements for safety, compliance, constructability, operability, and maintainability.
  • Manage key interfaces across engineering, procurement, and construction.
  • Coordinate with field teams and contractors to ensure buildable and aligned solutions.
  • Lead technical decision-making and value improvement initiatives.
  • Capture and embed lessons learned across projects.
