Job Description
The Root Laboratory at Thomas Jefferson University is seeking a Research Assistant (entry to mid-level) to support research focused on the cell and structural biology of viral entry, with an emphasis on the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein (Env).
This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies including mass spectrometry, super-resolution microscopy, and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). The successful candidate will contribute to experiments aimed at understanding how viral proteins are packaged and how they mediate infection—insights that are critical to therapeutic and vaccine development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and execution of experiments related to HIV-1 Env biology
- Prepare samples and operate advanced instrumentation (e.g., cryo-EM, mass spectrometry)
- Perform data analysis and maintain detailed lab records
- Collaborate with team members and participate in lab meetings
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field
- Previous research experience is a plus, but not required
- Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn new techniques, and ability to work independently
