Requirements
  • Proven experience as a butcher or in meat cutting within a grocery store, retail, or meat production setting.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and all personnel.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of perishable foods, particularly meat.
  • Must be over the age of 18.
  • Ability to stand in one place for a long period of time and regularly bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in environments with extreme temperatures.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare all non-case-ready meat products by cutting, grinding, wrapping, and trimming them according to established standards.
  • Provide expertise and leadership on the sales floor while ensuring safety and sanitation guidelines are followed and inventory is effectively managed.
  • Apply knowledge of different cuts of meat and cooking techniques to assist guests and ensure quality product offerings.
  • Fill all service and self-service cases with fresh, frozen, and processed products while meeting quality and quantity standards.
  • Support teammates and contribute to the Meat Department team.
  • Increase sales by ensuring products are visually appealing to guests.
  • Reduce shrink by following production lists, accurate trim standards, and waste-minization practices.
  • Package, label, and store meat products according to company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in training Utility team members in grinding, sausage making, service-counter cutting, special orders, wrapping, and filling products.
  • Maintain department cleanliness and operate, maintain, and sanitize equipment.
  • Provide service at the meat counter by offering product knowledge and assisting guests with their needs.
  • Collect and fulfill special orders and requests in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the team.
  • Attend regularly and on time according to the work schedule, and provide adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences.

Schnuck Markets Acquires Festival Foods

Schnuck Markets, Inc. has acquired 100% of the shares of Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers, Inc. through the 1939 Group, Inc., owned by the Schnuck family. The acquisition includes shares from CEO Mark Skogen and the Employee Stock Ownership Plan. The 1939 Group will maintain the existing store banners and corporate headquarters, with Todd Schnuck as Chairman and CEO. The transaction is expected to close in October, subject to customary approvals.
