About the job

Requirements
  • The candidate must have 7–12+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, or corporate development, with direct full-cycle deal experience from sourcing through integration, not diligence alone.
  • The candidate must have advanced financial modeling skills, including discounted cash flow, comparable transactions, precedent transactions, and returns or leveraged buyout-style analysis.
  • The candidate must have a track record of structuring and closing transactions, including direct ownership of diligence workstreams and deal terms.
  • The candidate must be able to operate as a trusted partner to C-suite executives and, ideally, a private equity sponsor or board.
  • The candidate must be able to distill complex financial analysis into clear, board- and executive-ready materials.
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with company leadership to translate strategic priorities into concrete acquisition criteria, including target segment, geography, capability gaps, and deal size.
  • Build and continuously refresh a target database, tracking strategic fit, estimated size, ownership structure, and readiness signals for each prospect.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with investment bankers, M&A advisors, and industry contacts to generate proprietary deal flow ahead of a formal process.
  • Conduct ongoing market and competitive research to identify technology tuck-ins, provider-network expansion, complementary platforms, and geographic expansion opportunities.
  • Apply a consistent screening framework to proactively sourced targets and inbound approaches so opportunities are compared on the same basis.
  • Build and maintain financial models for prospective transactions, including discounted cash flow, comparable company, precedent transaction, and returns or accretion analysis.
  • Develop preliminary valuation ranges and deal economics early, before significant diligence resources are committed to a target.
  • Stress-test assumptions about synergy realization, retention, integration cost, and working capital impact, and flag deals whose economics depend on optimistic assumptions.
  • Translate financial analysis into a defensible investment case that can withstand board- and sponsor-level scrutiny.
  • Own end-to-end financial, operational, legal, and commercial due diligence, coordinating outside advisors and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and quantify key risks and potential deal-breakers early in a process.
  • Lead negotiation of transaction terms, including price, structure, representations and warranties, earn-outs, and indemnification, in partnership with Legal and Finance.
  • Manage the full transaction timeline and workstream dependencies, keeping deals moving without sacrificing diligence rigor.
  • Prepare decision-ready materials for the executive team, investment committee, and board, covering market landscape, deal rationale, financial case, key risks, and recommendations.
  • Present and defend analysis directly to senior leadership and the board, addressing detailed questions and challenges to assumptions.
  • Keep stakeholders informed at each stage of a live deal, surfacing changes in risk, economics, or timeline as they emerge.
  • Build integration plans with clear milestones, owners, and success metrics before a deal closes.
  • Partner with leaders across Finance, Product, Engineering, People, and go-to-market to execute integration plans and resolve issues.
  • Track acquired-business performance against the original underwritten case on a defined cadence and proactively flag material variances.
  • Document lessons learned from each transaction to improve future target criteria, deal structures, and diligence focus areas.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a private-equity-backed or founder-led company, particularly one that has executed multiple bolt-on or platform acquisitions.
  • Experience in marketplace, software-as-a-service, or services businesses.
  • An MBA or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Experience building or scaling a corporate development function from an individual-contributor seat.

About the company

Field Nation is a marketplace that connects businesses with skilled freelance technicians to complete on-demand work orders, mainly in the United States. Companies post work orders and pre-vetted field technicians bid on and complete them; Field Nation earns a fee based on the transaction value. The platform works by letting businesses search for technicians by location, project needs, and specific skills, then manage and track work orders through profiles, team building, and outcomes. What sets Field Nation apart is its large, vetted network and a high track record, with about 1.4 million work orders completed annually and a 98% success rate, driven by a rigorous vetting process and tools that help companies build trusted, consistent field teams. The company's goal is to help businesses run field operations more efficiently and cost-effectively by providing flexible labor and access to qualified, on-demand talent.
