Migraine annual economic and quality-of-life burden in UK.

Migraine annual economic and quality-of-life burden in UK. Migraine affects an estimated 280,000 people across Greater Manchester and creates an annual economic and quality-of-life burden of around £870m, according to a report from Health Innovation Manchester and AbbVie UK. The report, based on linked healthcare data, health economic modelling, pathway analysis and patient and healthcare professional insights, estimates that £546m of the burden relates to quality-of-life impacts, £295m to lost productivity and £29m to direct healthcare costs. It found that only around one-third of people thought to have migraine are captured in recorded diagnosed or actively treated populations, although gaps in diagnosis and routine recording mean the true burden may be higher. The analysis also identified variation in diagnosis, treatment and access to specialist care. Of patients newly diagnosed between 2019 and 2024, 55% received preventative treatment, while around 1% reached fourth-line treatment during the evaluation period. The report recommends a standardised NICE-aligned migraine pathway, greater capacity in primary and community care, a population health approach to identifying unmet need, and more consistent treatment review and escalation. Laura Rooney, Deputy Chief Executive at Health Innovation Manchester, said: "Many people are living without a diagnosis, navigating fragmented services or waiting too long for their treatment to be reviewed and optimised." The report was produced through a collaborative working project between Health Innovation Manchester and AbbVie. It concludes that the findings could inform migraine care planning elsewhere in the UK, although the analysis is specifically based on Greater Manchester.

Abbott launches blood-based cancer screening test amid 23% annual share price decline

Abbott Laboratories has launched SimpleScreen CRC in the US, an FDA-approved blood-based colorectal cancer screening test for average-risk adults who decline traditional screening methods. The company's share price has fallen 10.2% over one month, though it remains up 9.5% over 90 days. The one-year total shareholder return stands at negative 22.9%, suggesting investors are reassessing growth potential around the current $100.95 share price. The most followed valuation narrative points to a fair value of $120.26, implying the stock is 16% undervalued. This valuation factors in the scaling of Abbott's cancer diagnostics portfolio and expected contributions of approximately $3 billion in 2026 sales. However, the company faces pressure from ongoing nutrition legal settlements and higher expansion spending for its Libre product line.

AbbVie (ABBV) stock: FDA approves new Parkinson's drug Juvmo.

AbbVie (ABBV) stock: FDA approves new Parkinson's drug Juvmo. AbbVie (ABBV) stock: FDA approves Juvmo, a new Parkinson's disease drug, ahead of its October 2026 U.S. launch. By Trader Edge September 28, 2026 3 Mins Read Tldr. * AbbVie received FDA approval for Juvmo (tavapadon), a new Parkinson's disease treatment. * Juvmo is the first selective D1/D5 receptor agonist approved for the condition. * The drug is taken once daily and can be used with or without levodopa. * Approval was based on Phase 3 TEMPO trial data showing improved daily functioning. * AbbVie plans to launch Juvmo in the U.S. in October 2026. AbbVie stock (ABBV) slipped slightly on Monday, down 0.29%, after the company announced a major regulatory win. The FDA approved Juvmo, a new drug for Parkinson's disease. Juvmo is the brand name for tavapadon. It's a once daily tablet designed to help control motor symptoms in adults with Parkinson's. This approval matters because Juvmo works differently than existing options. It's the first and only selective D1/D5 receptor agonist approved for Parkinson's disease. Most current dopamine agonists target D2/D3 receptors instead. Those drugs can come with tolerability issues that limit how doctors use them. AbbVie says Juvmo gives doctors a new tool. It can be taken alone or alongside oral levodopa, the standard treatment for Parkinson's. Why this approval stands out. Levodopa remains the backbone of Parkinson's treatment. But many patients need higher and more frequent doses as the disease progresses. That escalation isn't free. It can lead to complications like dyskinesia, which are involuntary movements that affect quality of life. According to AbbVie, about 70% of Parkinson's patients see their levodopa dose increased within the first year of treatment. Juvmo may help slow that trend. In the TEMPO clinical trial program, results looked promising. After 85 weeks on Juvmo, 93% of participants hadn't needed to increase their levodopa dose. For patients with early Parkinson's, 94% hadn't started levodopa at all after the same period. Those numbers come from the open label extension phase of the trial, called TEMPO-4. What the trial data showed. The TEMPO-1 study measured daily living scores using a standard Parkinson's rating scale. Patients on Juvmo saw a 22 to 23% improvement compared to baseline. The placebo group, meanwhile, got worse by 12%. That gap was statistically significant across both tested doses. In TEMPO-3, which looked at patients already on levodopa, Juvmo increased "on" time without troublesome dyskinesia. Patients gained 1.7 hours of on time versus 0.6 hours for placebo. "Off" time, when symptoms return, also dropped more sharply with Juvmo. Patients saw a 1.9 hour reduction compared to 0.9 hours for placebo. Side effects were mostly mild to moderate. The most common included nausea, headache, dizziness, and fatigue. For patients combining Juvmo with levodopa, dyskinesia and hallucinations also showed up as common side effects. AbbVie noted the overall safety profile was described as favorable. Roopal Thakkar, AbbVie's chief scientific officer, called this the first major dopaminergic breakthrough for Parkinson's in decades. That's a notable claim given how long the treatment landscape has stayed static. Outside voices echoed the sentiment. Hubert Fernandez, a neurologist at Cleveland Clinic who worked on the TEMPO trials, said the approval gives doctors more flexibility to tailor treatment. The Michael J. Fox Foundation also weighed in. Its chief scientist, Brian Fiske, called the approval an important step in building out treatment options for Parkinson's patients. AbbVie confirmed Juvmo will be available to patients in the U.S. starting in October 2026. That's just weeks away from today's announcement. Stop guessing and start investing with confidence.
