- An active Professional Engineering license is required.
- A degree in civil or structural engineering or a similar field is required.
- Knowledge of building materials, codes, construction methods, and common modes of failure is required.
- Ability to access roof, attic, and crawl-space areas is required.
- Ability to adhere to tight deadlines is required.
- Availability to readily accept assignments and perform site inspections within 5–7 days is required.
- Technical proficiency across multiple software platforms, tools, equipment, and investigative techniques is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Analytical and problem-solving ability is required.
- Conduct investigations of accidents or disasters to determine causes and contributing factors.
- Evaluate structural or water damage caused by natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, wind events, hail storms, or floods.
- Ensure proper maintenance and construction of affected building components and systems.
- Safely access roofs, attics, and crawl spaces to photographically document areas of interest.
- Identify and interview witnesses and other key parties involved.
- Prepare and submit findings and recommendations for resolving insurance claims or litigation matters.
- Perform site evaluations, field analysis, and assessments of structural and architectural systems, low- and steep-slope roofing systems, and foundation systems.
- Evaluate failures resulting from hail damage, wind damage, moisture intrusion, flooding, building-envelope failures, and general construction failures.
- Provide recommendations for remediation and repair, perform structural failure analysis, and evaluate damage from hurricanes, tornadoes, ice, wind, snow, fires, explosions, blasting, construction vibrations, and differential foundation movement.
