About the job
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.
- At least 4 years of knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and standards applicable to the discipline is required.
- At least 4 years of experience designing a variety of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems is required.
- Knowledge and experience designing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for buildings and facilities of different sizes and complexity is required, including heating hot water plants and distribution, steam distribution, chilled water generation and distribution, refrigerant cooling systems, space heating and cooling systems, ventilation systems, electrical-system interfaces, and building automation systems and controls.
- Experience with drainage, stormwater, domestic cold and hot water, medical and laboratory gas, process piping, natural gas, and other combustible organic-material systems is required.
- Knowledge of code-compliant plumbing and mechanical system design for buildings is required.
- Knowledge of building rating systems such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and the Living Building Challenge is required.
- Experience implementing low-water, energy-efficient, high-performance, resilient, and sustainable mechanical-system designs is required.
- The candidate must actively maintain current knowledge of innovative and advanced mechanical-system design.
- Lead projects involving strategic and space planning, consulting, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction oversight.
- Partner with the Harris Design Studio team on overall design concepts and design presentation strategies.
- Provide design and documentation during completion and execution of design concepts.
- Work with estimating and construction groups to provide design information.
- Support Digital Design and Building Information Modeling teams in preparing documents and drawings.
- Provide specifications for systems and equipment.
- Prepare calculations and selections to correctly size mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Prepare and check calculations to understand energy usage, water usage, and related building-system performance.
- Support communication among project teams, clients, and vendors.
- Conduct life-cycle cost analyses comparing initial project costs with operating costs.
- Assist senior engineers in recommending system-performance levels based on customer needs and preferences.

Harris expands into Colorado through multiple strategic acquisitions. June 2, 2026 Harris has expanded its national footprint into Colorado through the acquisition of three companies serving the region's mechanical systems, controls and building automation markets. The move establishes a strong operating base for Harris in Colorado and significantly broadens the company's presence across the Mountain West. The expansion began with the acquisition of Colorado-based temperature controls company D.R. Associates (DRA), effective May 4. Founded in Denver more than 20 years ago, DRA has built a strong reputation for delivering dependable temperature control solutions tailored to the needs of Colorado businesses. The company serves customers across industries including healthcare, manufacturing and commercial facilities. Effective June 1, Harris also acquired Climate Engineering (CEI) and Centennial Controls (CCI). CEI and CCI bring complementary expertise in mechanical systems, HVAC solutions and building automation throughout Colorado. Together, the companies have supported a wide range of commercial and industrial projects across the region, helping customers improve building performance, visibility and operational efficiency through advanced mechanical and controls solutions. Their strong technical capabilities, customer-focused approach and deep local relationships further strengthen Harris' ability to serve customers across Colorado.
