Requirements
  • Degree in business, commerce, law, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with complex linear infrastructure commercial and contract management, preferably on DB projects with heightened risk profiles.
  • Demonstrated track record in contract negotiation, claims management, risk control, and project governance.
  • Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary project teams and providing leadership through all project lifecycle phases.
Responsibilities
  • Commercial Leadership & Direction: Provide timely and consistent commercial and contract management leadership to support project teams and operations, with a focus on complex and major projects with heightened risk profiles (e.g., DB, PDB). Extend leadership through the full project lifecycle, from bid preparation through delivery.
  • Capability Development & Continuous Improvement: Drive improvement of commercial management capabilities across project teams by developing lessons learnt, preparing and presenting training modules, and enhancing the “One GHD” project delivery framework in relation to contract management, project controls, procedures, and systems.
  • Project Review & Assurance: Undertake reviews of projects on request to ensure effective commercial and contract management; provide independent reporting to the relevant Business EGM and EGM – Risk on the commercial and contractual position of large and major projects.
  • Pre-Bid/Teaming Support: Support early positioning for major opportunities by assisting in partner selection, attending meetings with prospective partners, identifying and mitigating key commercial risks, negotiating suitable commercial outcomes, and contributing to TRG/EGM briefings and approvals.
  • Contract Review & Negotiation: Advise on commercial implications of onerous contract terms, assist Legal Counsel in contract review, and contribute to the development of Contract Management Plans (CMPs). Act as a core member of negotiation teams to optimize commercial positions and liaise with LoA approvers.
  • Delivery Phase – Planning & Management: Lead development of CMPs including flowcharts and templates for managing variations, claims, and delays. Ensure CMPs are integrated into Project Management Plans and establish compliance requirements to prevent GHD from being commercially disadvantaged.
  • Contract & Claims Management: Guide effective implementation of contract administration, risk controls, and compliance with management systems. Take lead roles in the preparation and negotiation of significant variation and extension-of-time claims, and support Legal Counsel in defense or management of claims against GHD. Manage applications under Security of Payments Act (SOPA) where required.
  • Project Governance: Act as a “second line of defence” by undertaking reviews, implementing corrective actions, and reporting on risk and commercial outcomes. Maintain oversight of higher-risk projects and allocate dedicated commercial resources where required.
  • Training & Knowledge Sharing: Partner with Legal Counsel to develop and deliver training on contracts, risk, and PI claims. Support operational management and the Quality team in continuous improvement of frameworks, systems, and procedures.
