About the job

Requirements
  • You have completed a bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • You have meaningful hands-on experience in accounting, audit, or finance through full-time work, internships, or co-ops, and the judgement to recognize when an accounting treatment or financial result warrants further review.
  • You naturally look for ways to automate repetitive tasks, improve workflows, and connect data between different software platforms.
  • You will handle sensitive compensation, personnel, financial, and contract information with discretion and high integrity.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a personnel security clearance are required; an active clearance is not required at hire.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with the CEO on pricing, gross margin, working capital, resource allocation, and other decisions that drive profitable growth; build and maintain the company’s financial projections and operating model.
  • Serve as the bridge between the team, finance systems, and external accounting firm; prepare payroll inputs, enforce expense policy, follow up on accounts receivable, review accounts payable, and maintain clean accounting workflows.
  • Improve accounting controls, reporting, and approval processes over time.
  • Own onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, employee records, and performance-review logistics, and make these workflows consistent, professional, and scalable as the company grows.
  • Generate non-disclosure agreements and other standard company forms, review outside forms, flag unusual terms for leadership or counsel, and maintain and improve processes for compliance with FAR/DFARS, DCAA, export controls, and related requirements.
  • Write standard operating procedures, build trackers and dashboards, automate repetitive workflows, and deploy software solutions to support scaling from 15 to more than 300 employees.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two to five years of full-time professional experience in accounting, audit, corporate finance, finance operations, business operations, or internal systems.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems.
  • Experience in a startup, small manufacturer, government contractor, or other regulated, technical, or hands-on operating environment.
  • Interest in helping evaluate and eventually transition the company from QuickBooks to a mid-market enterprise resource planning system such as Acumatica, NetSuite, or Odoo.

About the company

OceanComm develops high-speed wireless underwater communication systems using acoustic-modem technology to move data through seawater. Its main product, an ultrasound-based modem, connects to existing Ethernet networks to enable tetherless control of underwater vehicles and real-time data, including video, from subsea environments. The company stands out by using patented signal-processing algorithms that achieve 100–1,000 times higher data rates in the underwater setting and by serving defense, offshore energy, and oceanographic research clients with ready-to-use networking capabilities. OceanComm’s goal is to help offshore operators reduce costs by providing real-time data access, video streaming, and remote control of subsea assets.

What believers are saying

  • OceanComm posted five R&D openings in August 2026, signaling active product expansion.
  • HigherGov shows a new April 2026 federal award, confirming continuing government demand.
  • LinkedIn and website updates in September 2026 show customer-facing momentum and live market visibility.

What critics are saying

  • Hydromea and Equinor demonstrated seabed-to-cloud wireless broadband in March 2026.
  • OceanComm still depends on federal SBIR and small Navy purchase orders, limiting revenue diversification.
  • If optical subsea networking wins defense and energy buyers, OceanComm's acoustic niche shrinks fast.

What makes OceanComm unique

  • OceanComm claims 400 kbps underwater links and 7 km range on custom models.
  • Singer and Riedl still anchor patented acoustic modem expertise from Illinois and Navy work.
  • Its Ethernet-compatible, software-defined modem differentiates against bespoke subsea integration projects.
