Requirements
  • Typically a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of experience in progressively responsible capacities, preferably in academic environments evaluating academic qualifications of applicants.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple and highly diverse populations and constituencies.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting workload priorities to ensure accurate and timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills, demonstrated through preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating data and technical information.
  • Demonstrated computer competency and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new and evolving computer systems, software applications, and web-based data-tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of California credentialing and/or K–12 employment requirements is highly desirable but relevant to the role’s credentialing responsibilities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising to candidates on routine and complex issues, including university policies, matriculation, standardized tests, documentation, registration, program changes, finances, financial aid, student accounts, credential filing, degree completion, and program-completion issues.
  • Respond to candidate concerns and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Verify official documentation required for credential and degree completion; collect, review, scan, and upload post-admission documentation; and maintain electronic candidate files.
  • Evaluate incoming students’ coursework for credential requirements, including Basic Skills, Subject Matter, and United States Constitution requirements.
  • Disseminate information and facilitate the Character and Identification Clearance fingerprint process for intern credential candidates when applicable.
  • Collaborate with the School of Education Credential Office to support candidates’ credentialing needs.
  • Provide referrals and follow-up to campus student support services, including Disability Support Services, Student Psychological Services, the Academic Resource Center, and the School of Education Student Success Center.
  • Submit Community of Care referrals as needed based on candidate communications.
  • Provide program leadership with updates and feedback on course sequences, schedule offerings, bulletin language, candidate issues and trends, and program needs.
  • Analyze, edit, and maintain program communications and documentation, including university bulletin, web-based, and digital materials, to ensure accuracy and improve program efficiency.
  • Stay current on California Commission for Teacher Credentialing policies, legislation, trends, and credential regulations for California credentials, certificates, permits, and authorizations.
  • Maintain working knowledge of educational practices in California PK–12 school systems related to certificated employment.
  • Evaluate and determine credential eligibility and notify the Credential Office of files requiring review.
  • Assist with credential-file review and recommendations as needed.
  • Assist in developing standardized advising practices, documentation, and protocols for the School of Education.
  • Provide leadership support for School of Education and Registrar advising work.
  • Use Loyola Marymount University web-based systems to maintain electronic data and records related to programs, degrees, credential completers, and credential holders.
  • Provide accurate assessment data for university and School of Education administrators and faculty to support complex decision-making.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual Joint Data Collection report for accrediting agencies.
  • Participate in School of Education orientation activities, program retention initiatives, accreditation activities, and committee activities.
  • Represent Loyola Marymount University within the PK–12 educational community and at professional organizations or associations, and serve on committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in Education, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Knowledge or experience in California credentialing and/or K–12 employment requirements.
