Requirements
  • Be at least 15 years of age.
  • Possess Lifeguard Certification.
  • Obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and social services organization.
  • Be able to work a minimum of one weekend shift per month.
Responsibilities
  • Enforce pool rules to provide a safe environment for members, visitors, and employees.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions and maintain order in swimming areas.
  • Analyze situations and take quick, effective action while continuously observing assigned areas for danger.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Provide first aid, rescue breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and automated external defibrillator assistance when necessary.
  • Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of coworkers and the general public.
  • Assist with all aspects of aquatic programs.
  • Inspect and maintain the cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other assigned areas.
  • Set up and break down facility equipment under supervision.
  • Help set up and break down the Wim Meet Timing System under supervision.
  • Test or provide information for all required pool documents daily.
  • Communicate with coworkers and customers in person and by telephone.
  • Wear standard apparel prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and maintain a professional appearance while on duty.
  • Attend required staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Learn and follow all policies and procedures.
  • Represent and support The Salvation Army’s mission in programs, training, customer relations, and daily operations.
  • Perform other assignments and duties as directed.
Desired Qualifications
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard or Shallow Water Certification is strongly preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to communicate verbally with a diverse audience of members.
