Requirements
  • A high school diploma and 2-3 years of work-related experience in elementary education or child care are required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate self-motivation, initiative, time management, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must be able to work collaboratively and independently.
  • The candidate must have cultural flexibility, cultural competency with multicultural participants, and experience working with inner-city and unchurched youth.
  • The candidate must be a detail-oriented, logical thinker who can work independently on assigned projects and adapt to organizational and community needs.
  • The candidate must possess a valid driver's license.
  • The candidate must complete Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
  • The candidate must possess a valid National Sex Offender Registry Clearance.
  • The candidate must complete a tuberculosis test and a health physical meeting Department of Human Services compliance requirements for licensed School Age Centers.
  • The candidate must complete 10 hours of Health and Safety Training upon hire.
  • The candidate must provide proof of mandated reporter training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting Pennsylvania Act 153 of 2014 standards within 30 days of employment, with recurrent training every five years thereafter.
  • The candidate must understand and appreciate The Salvation Army's mission.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the daily operations of the Summer Youth Enrichment Program.
  • Remain responsible for assigned participants at all times and for other participants when needed and directed by supervisory staff.
  • Manage the basic behavior of the assigned group during learning activities, special classes, field trips, and guest presentations in accordance with program rules and behavior plans.
  • Actively participate in all activities to model positive participation and cooperation to youth.
  • Facilitate the provided 7 Habits and Lit Camp curriculum.
  • Teach or assist in teaching a Choice Class.
