Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine

Summary of Job Responsibilities:

The physicianin the clinicaltrackis responsible forproviding directinpatient andoutpatientcare toGI patients atUHealth Locations andJackson Memorial Hospital. He/she will provideobesity evaluation, medical therapy,endobariatricoutpatient clinical andendoscopic services(at least 8 half days a week), as well as rounding/teaching oninpatients atUHealth Towers, andJacksonMemorialHospital.The physicianmust betrained intheassessment of obesity and obesity related complications, themedical management of obesity,and endoscopic interventions to address weight management and metabolic disease (ie,endobariatrics). Providers should be knowledgeablein regard tomeasures of obesity and obesity related complications,the roleformedical,social, and lifestylemanagementas well asphysical interventions to address weight loss. The provider shouldhave training in the psychologic and nutritional components of bariatricmedicine, andbe willing to care forGastroenterology/Hepatology patients inboth theinpatient and outpatient settings.Physicianwill do weekly, holiday, and weekend call proportionate to otherGIproviders.

Outline ofadditionalresponsibilities include but are notlimited to:

• Establish and perform comprehensive physiologic assessment of obesity and obesity relateddiseasesuch as BMI, body scan /body composition, elastography, andfibroscan.

• Educate patients on lifestyle changes, nutritional needs, andlong‑termdiet focusedweight management strategies.

• Prescribe,monitor, and manageanti‑obesitymedicationtherapy.  

• Evaluate patients for suitability for endoscopic vs. surgical interventions, considering comorbidities, weight history, and psychosocial factors.

• Manage obesity using endoscopic bariatric metabolic therapies (EBMTs) such as endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), transoral outlet reduction,sleeve‑in‑sleeverevision, and intragastricballoon.

• Perform and interpret endoscopic procedures withexpertisein sedation, airway management, and surgical anatomy relevant to bariatriccare.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with obesity medicine physicians, dietitians, psychologists, and surgical teams to address nutritional, psychological, and lifestyle aspectsof bariatric care,

• Care for patients longitudinally across thetimecontinuum of obesity management.

• Maintain medical records and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.

• Stay current on emerging endoscopic devices, obesity pathophysiology, and treatment guidelines.

• Maintain outpatient clinical practiceatUhealth locations, UHealth Towers, and Satellite locationsas assigned.

• Rotate on night, holiday,and weekend call proportionate to other faculty. 

• Rotate proportionate to other faculty onGastroenterologyinpatient and JMH teaching services.

Qualifications:

• MD/DODegree and ACGMEUSinternal medicine internshipand residency.

• Completion of Clinical Nutrition and Obesity Medicine Fellowship

• Completed3-yearACGME US gastroenterologyand hepatologyfellowship. 

• Provide case logs for core and non-core endoscopic procedures(2 years). 

• Valid American Board of ObesityMedicineCertification (ABOM) 

• Valid American Board Certification in Internal MedicineandGastroenterology (or board eligible).

• Valid unrestricted Florida Medical License or eligible to apply (must have license prior to credentialing).

• Valid DEA licensure

• Permanent residency, or ability toability tosecure proper Visa to work in the United States. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Completion of US ACGME3-yeargastroenterology/hepatologyfellowship.

• Obesity Certification

• MustmaintainCME to meet institutional and state licensing requirements.

• Must have excellent clinical knowledge and experience to provide safe and quality care to patients and meetinstitutional standards of care.

• Current ACLS and BLS certificationrequired.
