Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a specialized diploma.
  • At least 2 years of experience in maternal/child nursing.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning experiences.
  • Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice, including respectful collaboration in care and care planning.
  • Knowledge of cultural awareness and the ability to connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, including accurately transmitting, receiving, and interpreting information and appropriately delegating to team members.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment and care, including assessing ailments and injuries and implementing treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of child and adult education techniques and the ability to educate patients and designated care partners about conditions, treatments, medications, and recovery steps.
  • Knowledge of discharge planning and the ability to develop discharge plans and arrange follow-up care with patients and families.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools and techniques, nursing diagnosis, and clinical judgment.
  • Knowledge of health information documentation, including recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification.
  • Registered Nurse licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds and perform role-specific physical activities including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to address patients' physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate lactation plans for breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyads and pumping parents.
  • Provide safe, family-centered patient care in collaboration with patients, families, significant others, and healthcare team members.
  • Interact with co-workers, patients, family or designated care partners, and other staff consistently with Jefferson's values.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient and family preferences, and cultural beliefs and values in healthcare delivery.
  • Partner with patients and designated care partners to identify learning needs and priorities and provide understandable, affirming education.
  • Follow established nursing practices and protocols to minimize risk of harm.
  • Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate errors, and support ethical decision-making.
  • Use data to monitor care-process outcomes and apply improvement methods to design and test changes that improve patient-care quality and safety.
  • Function within nursing and interprofessional teams to support open communication, mutual respect, shared decision-making, and quality patient care.
  • Provide safe, compassionate, coordinated care that respects patients' preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Create an inclusive environment and apply problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Pursue continued professional growth and development and serve as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
  • Participate in hospital- and practice-setting committees, including safety and quality-improvement committees.
  • Give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient lactation consultation to meet care needs.
  • Provide post-delivery consultation regarding breastfeeding/chest-feeding, family bonding, and family planning.
  • Evaluate patients' responses to care and initiate independent or collaborative changes when appropriate.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within 3 years of hire is strongly preferred.
  • Facilitate prenatal classes in the ambulatory setting.
  • Support ambulatory practices with lactation training and consultation.
