About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in quality assurance or test automation engineering, including hands-on ownership of an automation framework built from scratch and in-depth knowledge of its architecture and design decisions.
  • Strong programming ability in at least one of Python, TypeScript, Go, or C++, used to build frameworks and tooling rather than only author test scripts.
  • Solid grasp of quality assurance methodologies, test design, and automation architecture.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into continuous integration and continuous delivery build and deployment workflows.
  • Experience in a trading firm or financial technology environment, with exposure to systematic trading systems or similarly complex, low-latency, data-driven platforms.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with engineering and research teams.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and own automated test frameworks and suites for backend services, application programming interfaces, and user interfaces from the ground up.
  • Ensure adequate coverage across functional, integration, and performance testing.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, research, trading, and operations teams to define test requirements and quality expectations.
  • Identify gaps in existing test strategies and work with engineering to improve coverage and reliability.
  • Advocate for and implement shift-left testing so issues are caught early in the software development life cycle.
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions to drive testability and automation.
  • Validate correctness and performance under low-latency, high-throughput conditions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with modern automation frameworks, particularly Playwright and Pytest, for application programming interface and/or user-interface testing.
  • Experience validating low-latency, high-throughput systems and familiarity with performance tools such as k6 or Locust.
  • Experience specifically in crypto, Web3, or systematic-trading domains.
  • Applied use of artificial intelligence in quality assurance workflows, such as large language model-assisted test generation, agentic failure triage, or large language model output evaluation (LLM-as-judge and non-deterministic system testing), as an engineering practice rather than just tool usage.
  • Working knowledge of SQL or NoSQL.
  • Exposure to data warehouse, data lake, or streaming-pipeline testing.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog or Grafana.

About the company

What sets Hermeneutic apart is its track record of decade-long success and a culture that emphasizes alpha generation, open debate, relentless iteration, and teamwork, along with a hard-wired focus on risk management and opportunistic market participation. Its stated goal is to sustain and grow its capital and performance over the coming decades by continuing to expand its edge in challenging markets.
