  • At least two years of practical experience in electronics repair, maintenance, and checkout.
  • Four years of practical experience in electronics repair, maintenance, installation, and checkout, including two years of experience with aviation ground navigation systems, meteorology systems, or air-traffic communication systems.
  • Ability to satisfy the physical qualification required for deployment to Antarctica.
Responsibilities
  • Work with the Program Manager and CNI Talent Acquisitions to maintain staffing requirements for Electronics Technician positions in the NPP.
  • Perform administrative functions for the Electronics Technician team, including timesheets, appraisals, training, and travel documents.
  • Coach and train staff in established quality processes, procedures, and expected project deliverables.
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor assigned staff; provide training and direction; and exercise supervisory personnel-management responsibilities.
  • Oversee staff and exercise supervisory personnel-management responsibilities.
  • Travel to Antarctica for up to six months per year as required.
  • Work with the government project manager and support program needs at the sponsor level and with program stakeholders.
  • Coordinate workshops and meetings, develop agendas, participate in planning sessions, generate meeting minutes, and track action items.
  • Recommend policies, doctrine, tactics, and procedures.
  • Coordinate and interface with Department of Defense, non-Department of Defense, and international participants in and outside the continental United States.
  • Provide subject material for technical documentation, consult with management personnel, and prepare and conduct training relating to Aviation Command and Control projects and polar-environment research.
  • Track and submit all Electronics Technician contract deliverables on time, including meeting agendas and minutes, plans of action and milestones, monthly status reports, trip reports, end-of-season and lessons-learned reports, position binders, standard operating procedures, and program-acquisition documents.
  • Report operational readiness, capabilities, limitations, and reliability of installed systems.
  • Maintain and verify work-center safety requirements and equipment.
  • Submit work requests for facility repairs according to individual site processes.
  • Collect and maintain equipment maintenance logs, equipment certification records, and inventory records.
  • Review test equipment condition, calibration status, and requirements.
  • Calibrate and repair sensors and test equipment.
  • Assist with point papers, analyses, briefings, work groups, and other management-related tasks.
  • Document and archive maintenance actions in a government computer-based tool, spreadsheet program, or handwritten log.
  • Follow configuration-control and security policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and conduct pre-deployment ground school, on-site training, and other required training.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of government-owned tools.
  • Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification for all technicians.
  • Provide estimated airlift needs before each operational season.
  • Follow frequency-management policies and procedures.
  • Ensure spare-parts and component inventories are accurate and adequate.
  • Conduct authorized equipment modification, installation, and removal.
  • Prepare updated drawings and technical documentation reflecting system and equipment status and changes.
  • Prepare routine and special reports.
  • Support flight checks and certifications of airfield systems.
  • Ensure assigned equipment operates according to applicable technical specifications and operational directives.
  • Ensure full-time technicians meet deployment requirements for United States Antarctic Program stations.
  • Verify that deploying technicians possess valid driver's licenses.
  • Ensure technicians obtain and maintain qualification to operate light vehicles at United States Antarctic Program stations unless otherwise stated.
  • Provide maintenance support up to 24 hours per day, seven days per week, at McMurdo Station and surrounding airfields.
  • Provide maintenance support for systems requiring technicians to travel by helicopter, light airplane, or cargo aircraft.
  • Maintain a written Master Station Log of maintenance activity, equipment status, changes, and significant events.
  • Measure and report operational availability of systems.
  • Maintain and follow system-outage reporting procedures, including report times, report type, content, and follow-up reports.
  • Develop and provide incident, accident, and other post-action emergent reports by required due dates.
  • Maintain systems according to applicable Department of Defense and non-Department of Defense information-security requirements.
  • Provide scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of navigational aids systems.
  • Ensure proper navigational-aids sighting and installation according to applicable instructions.
  • Initiate requests for flight checks according to established processes.
  • Ensure voice-recording and data-recording media is managed and secured according to established directives.
  • Ensure sufficient certified technicians are present to set up, maintain, and remove navigational aids at McMurdo Station and other airfields.
  • Provide scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of communications systems.
  • Ensure proper communications-system installation according to applicable instructions.
  • Maintain communications-circuit access during contingency and backup operations.
  • Ensure sufficient certified technicians are present to set up, maintain, and remove communications systems at McMurdo Station and surrounding airfields.
  • Assist technicians with communications components, devices, and subsystems within navigational-aids and meteorology systems.
  • Provide scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of meteorology systems.
  • Ensure sufficient certified technicians are present to set up, maintain, and remove meteorology systems at McMurdo Station and surrounding airfields.
  • Attend required safety training and perform maintenance and repair away from the normal work center, including deep-field camps and remote automated observation stations.

  • Experience with navigational-aids, communications, and/or meteorological equipment is a plus.
