About the company

BlackRock manages money for pension funds, governments, insurers, and everyday savers, and sells the software it uses to run those investments to other firms. In 2009, its purchase of Barclays Global Investors brought in the iShares fund family and made BlackRock the world's largest asset manager. Its iShares exchange-traded funds trade like stocks and mostly track market indexes, while its private funds lend to companies and invest in infrastructure and real estate. BlackRock charges a yearly fee on the money it manages, and banks, insurers, and other investors pay to use Aladdin, its system for measuring risk and running portfolios. Larry Fink and seven partners founded BlackRock in 1988, and it is based in New York City.

  • Engineers are in demand: 97 of 315 open BlackRock jobs in October 2026 were in engineering or technology.
  • Private markets are the growth bet: BlackRock aims to raise $400 billion for private funds from 2025 through 2030.

What critics are saying

  • Its biggest rival took the US ETF lead: Vanguard passed BlackRock in June 2026, ending BlackRock's run since 2003.
  • Job cuts are routine: June 2026's roughly 200 layoffs were BlackRock's fourth round in 18 months.
  • Private lending is under strain: BlackRock's $26 billion HPS fund met about half of withdrawal requests in March 2026.

  • Other investors pay to use its software: technology revenue, mostly from Aladdin, rose 24% to $2.0 billion in 2025.

Emirates NBD and BlackRock launch income funds for retail clients.

Emirates NBD and BlackRock launch income funds for retail clients. BlackRock sub-manages one fund and advises on the other as the partnership opens to Emirates NBD retail clients. Get the hottest Fintech Middle East News once a month in your Inbox Emirates NBD Asset Management and BlackRock have launched two income funds to mark one year of their partnership. The partnership began in 2025 with private market products for professional clients. It now covers public funds open to retail investors in the region. In its first year, it drew USD 350 million in assets under management. The first product is the FundStar Emirates CLO AA Fund, which BlackRock sub-manages. It pays income at a floating rate by investing in collateralised loan obligations (CLOs), which are backed by senior secured loans to firms in the US and Europe. According to the companies, the fund aims for an average AA credit rating and holds nothing rated below investment grade. Investors can access their money daily, and the fund uses no leverage. BlackRock has over 24 years of CLO experience and manages more than USD 40 billion in CLO strategies. The second product is the Emirates Systematic Income and Growth Fund. Rather than tracking a benchmark, it invests in income-paying assets around the world. It targets a 7% payout after fees, paid quarterly. For this fund, BlackRock acts as investment adviser, while Emirates NBD Asset Management runs the portfolio. Both funds are now open to Emirates NBD's wealth and retail clients. Michail Samawi, Senior Executive Officer at Emirates NBD Asset Management, said the two new funds are intended to widen access to global investments and help clients build income-generating portfolios that match their long-term financial goals. Keith Saldanha, Head of Wealth and Global Product Solutions for the Middle East and Africa at BlackRock, said he sees room for both CLO and systematic strategies in wealth portfolios, and that the two firms plan to keep developing products that give investors in the region a wider range of options. BlackRock buidl's scale meets a different tokenization test.

BlackRock buidl's scale meets a different tokenization test. BUIDL's US$2.3 billion tokenization scale gives BlackRock an established product around which to develop tokenized-fund use cases. Scale can attract institutional attention, but collateral utility ultimately depends on acceptance by the firms that hold, manage and receive assets in financial transactions. Early users largely came from crypto markets, including stablecoin holders seeking yield, according to Nikhil Sharma, a director on BlackRock's digital-assets team. The initial customer base therefore reflects an on-chain demand for cash-like yield; expansion into conventional markets would require a different network of counterparties and operating arrangements. This transition is part of a broader shift in how tokenized assets are being considered: not only as digital representations of stocks, bonds or money-market funds, but as instruments that could alter how assets move through financial markets. For BlackRock, tokenized funds may eventually support collateral workflows as well as crypto-market activity, provided that institutional systems can recognize and process them. The near-term focus is on the acceptance layer: bank recognition, infrastructure compatibility, and rules governing custody, margin, and cross-border treatment. Until those pieces are in place, tokenized fund shares remain a live collateral tool in digital-asset markets and a proposed extension into traditional finance.

BlackRock's Larry Fink warns a data centre moratorium could trigger a US recession

BlackRock chief executive officer Larry Fink warned on Wednesday that a moratorium on data centres would push the US into recession. He told CNBC that "a moratorium of some sort in this country" would hurt because much of the economy is tied to data centre investment. Fink called most fears about the buildout "misinformation" and said data centres "are not the problem." He said they create demand for construction workers, energy infrastructure, and AI computing hardware. A Pew Research Center survey found at least 49% of Americans say data centres are mostly bad for the environment, home energy costs, and quality of life nearby. McKinsey expects global data centre investment to reach almost $7 trillion by 2030, with more than 40% in the US. BlackRock reported third-quarter net income of $2.6 billion, beating expectations.
