Requirements
  • Meets the requirements for Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Must be available to work Sunday through Saturday, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage, on various assigned shifts.
Responsibilities
  • Resolve routine operational issues in a timely manner, involving the manager as appropriate.
  • Monitor inventories and order reagents and supplies as needed to maintain adequate stock.
  • Maintain the policy and procedure manual for the assigned area, ensuring review by the manager.
  • Maintain compliance with College of American Pathologists requirements and ensure all requirements are addressed.
  • Resolve technical problems appropriately by serving as a troubleshooting resource to staff.
  • Implement new equipment and procedures properly.
  • Ensure all surveys are processed and reported appropriately.
  • Perform responsibilities in other laboratory areas as designated.
  • Review quality-control and improvement data and submit it as appropriate.
  • Review monthly statistical reports and discuss them with the manager.
  • Complete all linearity and reproducibility studies in a timely manner with appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure preventive-maintenance functions are completed appropriately and that records are reviewed and signed monthly.
  • Provide and document appropriate, timely orientation and training for new employees in the assigned area.
  • Participate in continuing education activities to enhance technical and clinical expertise.
  • Promote a collaborative and cooperative work environment while meeting organizational requirements and work habits.
  • Assist phlebotomy staff as necessary to provide prompt, compassionate customer service to patients.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Registration with the American Society for Clinical Pathology, Health Education and Welfare, or American Medical Technologists is preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic first aid certification are preferred.
