Requirements
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Emergency Medicine.
  • An active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any United States state or territory.
  • A current Drug Enforcement Administration license.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation, specifically a National Agency Check with Written Inquiries.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance.
  • Ability to push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
  • No visa sponsorship is available.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care 100% of the time in the emergency department.
  • Evaluate, treat, and manage emergent trauma, cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, psychiatric, obstetric and gynecological, gastrointestinal, endocrine, infectious, and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Perform minor and major procedures, including suturing, intubation, central line placement, and chest tube insertion.
  • Stabilize and transfer patients requiring higher levels of care.
  • Review inpatient admissions and consults.
  • Apply orthopedic devices and manage medications according to Veterans Affairs policy.
  • Provide discharge education and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Initiate social work referrals for homeless or high-risk patients.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings when the shift coincides.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Complete documentation in the Veterans Affairs electronic health record system, Computerized Patient Record System.
  • Complete progress notes and coding in a timely manner.
  • Report patient safety incidents within 24 hours.
  • Maintain compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and Veterans Affairs privacy standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine is preferred.
