Gemini co-founder calls Bitcoin a 50% discount despite holding $4.6B in BTC

Cameron Winklevoss, co-founder of crypto exchange Gemini, has urged investors to buy Bitcoin, calling its current price a 50% discount. Bitcoin fell from an all-time high of $120,000 last October to $58,000 in June, now trading at $64,750. The Winklevoss twins own approximately 70,000 BTC worth $4.60 billion. Earlier this year, they transferred $130 million in Bitcoin to Gemini wallets, which analysts viewed as potential preparation for a sale. Gemini has cut 30% of its workforce amid declining crypto prices and trading volumes, and is pivoting to new businesses including prediction markets. Winklevoss attributes Bitcoin's decline to artificial intelligence stock popularity rather than crypto fundamentals. Gemini shares have fallen 89% since going public last September, now trading at $3.54.

Gemini narrows Q2 loss to $108M as crypto trading revenue drops 38%

Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini reported a $107.7 million net loss for the second quarter, narrowing 19% from a $133.2 million loss in the same period last year. The company, led by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, posted $45.5 million in total revenue, up 19% year-over-year. Revenue from Gemini's credit cards jumped 231% to $16.2 million, whilst staking revenue grew 50% to $4 million. However, trading revenue fell 38% to $12.5 million as total trading volume dropped to $3.8 billion from $11.3 billion a year ago. Gemini's prediction market generated $500,000 in revenue. The company, which went public in September 2025, has seen its stock decline 87% since listing, trading at $4.08 per share.

Gemini posts $108M Q2 net loss despite 37% revenue growth.

Gemini posts $108M Q2 net loss despite 37% revenue growth. Credit card and staking revenue drove Gemini's services growth in Q2 as exchange revenue fell 38% and trading volume dropped by two-thirds. Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini reported a 37% year-over-year increase in second-quarter revenue to $45.5 million, while posting a $107.7 million net loss as exchange trading weakened. Exchange revenue fell 38% to $12.5 million as trading volume dropped to $3.8 billion from $11.3 billion, the company said Thursday. Services revenue climbed 149% to $23.5 million, led by a 231% increase in credit card revenue to $16.2 million and a 50% rise in staking revenue to $4 million. Including interest income, services revenue and interest income totaled $26 million. Meanwhile, transaction losses rose to $20.1 million from $3.6 million a year earlier, primarily due to a $16.1 million provision for credit losses tied to an identity fraud event involving the credit card portfolio. Gemini said the elevated provision was concentrated among affected accounts and did not reflect broader deterioration in the portfolio. Operating expenses rose 24% year-over-year to $122.4 million, though they fell 15% from the first quarter as the company continued cost-cutting measures announced earlier this year. Gemini's stock price rose 3% during regular trading on Thursday, but fell nearly 5% in pre-market trading on Friday following the earnings release, according to Yahoo Finance data.

Gemini posts $107.7M quarterly loss as exchange revenue falls 38%.

Gemini posts $107.7M quarterly loss as exchange revenue falls 38%. Gemini Space Station (GEMI) reported a $107.7 million net loss in Q2 2026, as exchange revenue dropped 38% year over year to $12.5 million despite overall revenue rising 37% on strong services growth. Revenue mix shifts as trading volumes soften. Total revenue grew 37% year over year to $45.5 million, up from $33.3 million in Q2 2025, but the composition of that revenue tells a more cautious story. Exchange revenue, the core trading business, fell 38% to $12.5 million from $20.2 million in the same period a year earlier. The decline reflects broader weakness in spot trading volumes across the crypto market. Services revenue was the standout, surging 149% year over year from $9.5 million to $23.5 million, helping to offset the trading shortfall and underpin the overall revenue gain. The company said it continued to benefit from cost optimisation initiatives put in place earlier in 2026. Bitcoin losses weigh on adjusted EBITDA. While the net loss narrowed and operating loss improved for a third consecutive quarter, adjusted EBITDA deteriorated to negative $74 million, compared to negative $51.9 million in Q2 2025. Gemini attributed the decline primarily to market-driven realised and unrealised losses on $BTC received as part of a May 2026 private placement, following a fall in bitcoin prices after the transaction closed. Operating expenses fell 15% sequentially to $122.4 million, down from $144.5 million in Q1 2026, reflecting lower restructuring charges, reduced stock-based compensation, and continued cost discipline. Operating loss improved by approximately $17.2 million, or 18%, quarter over quarter. Monthly transacting users rose 11% year over year to 580,000, though assets on platform fell to $8.4 billion from $18.2 billion in Q2 2025, reflecting lower crypto asset valuations relative to elevated market levels in the prior year period. Cash and cash equivalents stood at $188.6 million at quarter end, compared with $252.2 million at the close of Q4 2025. The results come after a turbulent stretch for the Winklevoss-founded exchange. Earlier in 2026, the company exited the UK, EU, and Australian markets and cut around 200 jobs as part of a restructuring plan aimed at returning the business to profitability. (Advertisement)
