Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work or relevant field, or possessing an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of individual counseling and group facilitation.
  • Flexibility in work hours.
  • Knowledge and understanding of women’s issues, particularly as they relate to women with substance use, mental health, and/or gambling concerns.
  • Knowledge of the social service system in the designated service area.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Experience providing counseling to individuals experiencing problems related to substance use and mental health issues.
  • Experience working from a harm reduction perspective.
  • Experience working in community-based settings.
  • Commitment to broadening knowledge and skills.
Responsibilities
  • Support individual and group counseling sessions under the supervision of program staff.
  • Assist in facilitating workshops and structured program activities.
  • Provide case management and administrative support as needed.
  • Engage with clients using a trauma-informed, harm reduction framework.
  • Participate in team meetings, debriefs, and supervision sessions.
  • Contribute to program evaluation, planning, and client support initiatives.
  • Provide support and counseling for women dealing with substance use, gambling, and/or mental health problems in a 21-day treatment program.
  • Facilitate life-skills and educational workshops.
  • Provide crisis intervention support with daily routines and collaborate with team members to provide effective programs.
  • Provide trauma-informed and strength-based counseling.
  • Assist in delivering educational workshops and provide group counseling in person and/or online.
  • Complete administrative duties such as case notes, letters and summaries, file audits, and data entry.

The Jean Tweed Centre helps women, children, and families in Ontario with substance use, mental health, trauma, housing instability, and related needs. It offers residential and outpatient treatment, ongoing aftercare, and seven live-in or transitional housing sites in Toronto and the GTA. It also runs an on-site child development centre for children ages 0–6 and provides parenting support for pregnant and parenting women. Its goal is to lift women up, provide second chances, and create lasting positive change through holistic, wraparound services.
