Requirements
  • Knowledge of the less-than-truckload and transportation industry.
  • Experience managing drivers and dockworkers.
  • Knowledge of the geographical area surrounding the service center.
  • Ability to perform administrative and operational duties in an office and dock environment, including standing and walking for extended periods, pushing or pulling equipment, operating material-handling equipment, and occasionally assisting with physical dock tasks such as handling freight and related materials.
Responsibilities
  • Develop methods and procedures for the efficient and economical routing and movement of customers' freight while maintaining error-free operations and established service center budget guidelines.
  • Utilize the T.E.A.M. System for pickup-and-delivery and dock operations, along with trailer utilization reports, to maximize company assets, equipment, and personnel capabilities.
  • Prepare and compile daily, weekly, and monthly production and service records and measure conformance to service center objectives.
  • Observe, inspect, and measure service center personnel proficiencies to determine necessary changes in work practices and procedures.
  • Review logs and reports and confer with shift supervisory personnel to determine scheduling, production, and administrative support requirements.
  • Maintain internal and external customer relations in accordance with company policies.
  • Assist with the training, development, and evaluation of supervisory and production personnel and recommend or initiate personnel-record documentation.
  • Recruit prospective subordinate employees, including screening, qualifying, and interviewing candidates in conjunction with the Service Center Manager.
  • Inspect service center facilities for compliance with prescribed safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Inspect service center security, including Bay doors, tractors, keys, and freight in appointment trailers.
  • Oversee routine maintenance and repairs and initiate requisitions for corrective actions through the Service Center Manager.
  • Work with the Line Coordinator to plan and implement line-haul schedules and attain on-time service performance requirements.
  • Coordinate service center activities with line haul, sales, maintenance, and claims departments.
  • Issue directives to subordinates to coordinate the movement of expedited, late, or special-circumstance freight.
  • Assist with investigations of accidents and job-related injuries, ensure timely and accurate report preparation, and coordinate corrective actions with the Director of Safety.
  • Apply company safety practices and ensure worker compliance with Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, Interstate Commerce Commission, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations.
  • Participate in the Controlled Substance Testing Program for pre-employment, random, reasonable-cause, and post-accident testing under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  • Assist in preparing and conducting regular service center meetings covering service center performance, company trends, sales and marketing plans, and individual accomplishments and performance.
  • Coordinate and facilitate company- and service-center-sponsored Total Quality Management continuous-improvement processes and handle special assignments as directed.
