About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Data Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, or Machine Learning (Artificial Intelligence).
  • At least 7 years of experience building and shipping production software, including at least 2 years building AI or large language model-based applications used by real users.
  • Full-stack experience with modern TypeScript/React or equivalent on the front end, Python or TypeScript services on the back end, relational and vector data stores, and production cloud deployment ownership.
  • Hands-on fluency with large language model application patterns, including prompt design, structured output, tool use and function calling, retrieval and reranking, agentic orchestration, context management, and cost and latency optimization.
  • Demonstrated large language model evaluation experience, including building test sets, measuring output quality, and catching regressions before users do.
  • Working knowledge of AI-specific security, including prompt injection, data exfiltration, data and model poisoning, model access control, and secrets management.
  • Ability to understand user workflows and design adopted products that improve work quality and member experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship secure production AI applications end to end, including assessing appropriate levels of data access with policy and risk teams, model orchestration, API layers, and user interfaces.
  • Design and implement multi-step, tool-using systems that retrieve, reason, act, and hand off to a person when appropriate; determine when deterministic workflows or combinations of deterministic and probabilistic approaches are preferable.
  • Build measurable and defensible retrieval-augmented generation pipelines across policy manuals, procedures, product documentation, and lending guidelines.
  • Work with QA teams to evaluate systems against regulatory, policy, and other frameworks before release; provide each AI feature with a test set, scoring method, and regression suite.
  • Integrate systems securely through documented APIs and the iPaaS layer.
  • Implement prompt-injection defenses, personally identifiable information handling, model drift and poisoning detection, output validation, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and audit logging sufficient to produce examination artifacts.
  • Determine which rapidly produced software should be hardened for production, which should be discarded, and when tools or talent have matured enough to revisit solutions.
  • Establish engineering standards for code review, testing, deployment pipelines, documentation, and secure development appropriate to a federally regulated financial institution.
  • Develop a working prototype of the first prioritized use case within the first 30 days.
  • Deliver three AI applications to production within the first 90 days, with daily business-staff use, evaluation and monitoring from release, and support for forecasted return on investment and key performance indicators.
  • Build a portfolio of production AI applications, a documented internal pattern library for other engineers, and measurable cycle-time reductions across at least three business processes in the first year.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience delivering in a regulated environment such as financial services, healthcare, insurance, or government, with working knowledge of model risk management, third-party risk review, and audit or examination cycles.
  • Integration experience with core banking, loan origination, or payments platforms.
  • Professional familiarity with enterprise iPaaS platforms such as Workato, MuleSoft, or Boomi, Anthropic, and AWS Bedrock.
  • Experience with fine-tuning, distillation, or self-hosted small-model deployment.
  • Contributions to open-source AI tooling or public technical writing on large language model application engineering.
