  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required, or an Associate's Degree in Nursing with five years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity operating room in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity operating room is required for an experienced operating room Registered Nurse.
  • Two years of experience as a cardiovascular operating room Registered Nurse is required for the cardiovascular operating room Registered Nurse position.
  • For the transitional Registered Nurse program in the main operating room, five years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an intensive care unit, emergency department, or post-anesthesia care unit is required.
  • A California Registered Nurse license from the California Board of Registered Nursing is required.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required, with current incumbents required to obtain it within 90 days of accepting the Surgery Clinical Nurse II position.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in handling complex cases across various surgical specialties, including neuro, spine, head, eyes, ears, nose and throat, general, gynecological, vascular, thoracic, minimally invasive, robotic, and orthopedic surgery.
  • Proficiency in operating advanced surgical equipment and technology.
  • A strong understanding of surgical anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
  • Expertise in managing sterile fields and adhering to surgical protocols.
  • The ability to make rapid decisions in high-pressure environments, prioritize tasks, and adapt to dynamic surgical cases.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with the surgical team, patients, and families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to support a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment, including unit-based safety and infection-control requirements.
  • Coordinate the interprofessional healthcare team to deliver safe, efficient, patient-centered, timely, and equitable care to surgical patients.
  • Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments to identify patient-specific needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized perioperative care plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient responses intraoperatively and intervene swiftly as needed.
  • Act as a patient advocate and protect patient dignity and confidentiality.
  • Administer moderate sedation for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by healthcare team members, including oneself, and evaluate the contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation toward desired patient outcomes.
  • Advocate for evidence-based practices in perioperative care.
  • Serve as a liaison to cardiac surgeons, anesthesia providers, and department leadership for the cardiovascular operating room position.
  • Handle surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies properly.
  • Handle and document surgical specimens according to facility policy and physician orders.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and maintain a seamless workflow.
  • Manage inventory, including storage and distribution of cardiac-related items, and notify the cardiovascular operating room specialty coordinator when supplies are low for reordering.
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment and adhere to infection-control and hospital policies.
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection-control protocols.
  • Comply with hospital and regulatory standards, including The Joint Commission, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses guidelines.
  • Follow facility policies for patient identification, pre-procedure verification, the Universal Protocol, and prevention of unintended retained surgical items.
  • Identify and report safety concerns and address systemic issues.
  • Accurately document perioperative care, patient progress, and intraoperative incidents in the electronic medical record.
  • Provide preceptorship and mentorship to new graduate nurses, new hires, and students.
  • Participate in professional development activities, continuing education, certifications, workshops, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for best practices within the surgical services department.
  • Function in the charge nurse or service-line coordinator role as needed.
  • Act decisively during critical situations such as cardiac arrest or massive hemorrhage, using advanced clinical skills and composure.
Desired Qualifications
  • Scrub experience is preferred.
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse certification or equivalent certification is preferred.

This prestigious designation recognizes the hospital as a leader in delivering advanced, coordinated heart care. The certification is reserved for hospitals that provide a full range of heart care services across every stage of care - from prevention and early intervention to complex procedures, recovery and long-term management. Fewer than a dozen hospitals in California - and just three dozen nationwide - have earned this designation. What this means for patients For patients, the recognition signifies access to comprehensive, seamless and evidence-based heart care. As a Comprehensive Cardiac Center, Sharp Memorial offers a team-based approach, where specialists work together to ensure patients, both in inpatient and outpatient settings, receive timely diagnosis, advanced treatment and continued support tailored to their condition. Donate your vintage treasures for the Hospital Auxiliary's Summer Fair fundraiser. * May 14, 2026 Updated May 14, 2026 * 0 The Sharp Coronado Hospital Auxiliary is hosting its Summer Fair on Friday, June 5, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the hospital's Sandermann Auditorium at 265 Soledad Place. At last fall's Holiday Fair, Auxiliary Volunteer Mari Gilbert introduced her fun vintage items of family heirlooms and collectibles for sale. Gilbert assured the fundraising planners, "If it's old, somebody wants it!" Purchasing "Vintage" is a current trend to recycle items instead of discarding them in landfills. And to relive a time past. Clothing, handbags, china, toys, and games all play a part. At Gilbert's booth, look for 80's to today's fashion, including denim, leather jackets, designer items, rock and roll t-shirts, and jewelry for both men and women. If you are looking for a Father's Day gift, consider a military or nautical collectible, print, or antique. What are some of the more unusual things that will be available? Check out Hotel del Coronado memorabilia from the 1930s when Gilbert's grandmother actually lived there. Coronadonewsca need donations! Given their popularity, the Auxiliary is asking for residents to consider donating items that are taking up too much room at home or in their storage units! Do you have an 80's big shoulder pad jacket hanging in your closet? Your child's old lunch box with Roy Rogers or Star Wars characters can become someone's new treasure. An evening bag, costume jewelry, old Levi's, luggage from 1950, and nearly anything military or nautical will make a perfect donation for a great cause. They will be sold at the Fair, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the hospital. No furniture or large items can be accepted due to space constraints. Contact Gloria Aberasturi at 619-402-0402 to arrange to donate your objects no later than May 22. Additional artists and vendors will be selling their wares, including many unique handmade items. A portion of their sales will be donated to the Auxiliary, the nonprofit organization that supports the hospital's programs and projects. Home decor, handmade newborn outfits, charcuterie boards, bottle carriers, housewares, cloth carry bags, handcrafted greeting cards, jewelry, homemade jams, and hostess gifts will be for sale. Specialty Accessories, a favorite vendor, will have a large selection of clothing for sale. Pouch Leather Bags is returning with many sizes and colors. Once again, Pampered Chef will be displaying their amazing range of cooking tools. The Auxiliary's Quilt and Afghan Committee will be selling lap quilts and other handmade textile creations. Approximately 80 items are made each year and then donated to clients at the Villa or in hospice care. The Holiday and Summer Fairs are the only times they are available for sale. 100% of their sale price is donated to the Auxiliary. After you shop, please enjoy the food of the delicious Nono Jose Argentinas food truck vendor. Don't miss their wonderful empanadas! Most of the funds raised at this event will be directed to the Auxiliary's pledge in support of the Primary Stroke Center, offering expert stroke care to its community. Additionally, the Auxiliary has begun supporting the Katy Green and Cathy McJannet Nursing Scholarship program. Sharp Rees-Stealy opens 75,000 sq ft medical centre in Chula Vista with 375-space car park

PMB, a healthcare real estate developer, has completed a 75,000-square-foot medical outpatient building for Sharp Rees-Stealy in Chula Vista, California. The three-storey facility consolidates services from two existing sites, offering expanded primary, urgent, specialty and rehabilitation care. Located at Chula Vista Center Mall on H Street, the building features imaging services, laboratory facilities, a pharmacy, and multiple specialty departments including cardiology, neurology and sports medicine. A 127,000-square-foot parking structure with 375 spaces connects to the medical centre via a second-floor pedestrian bridge. The project continues PMB's partnership with Sharp HealthCare dating back to the 1970s. HGW served as architect, with Pacific Building Group as general contractor. PMB has developed over 130 healthcare facilities totalling approximately 6.5 million square feet.
