About the company

ConocoPhillips explores for, drills and produces crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids, which it sells to refiners, utilities and energy traders around the world. Most of its output comes from shale basins across the continental United States, where its crews drill long horizontal wells and fracture tight rock to release oil and gas. It also runs conventional onshore fields and offshore production platforms in Canada, Norway and other countries, and it earns its money from the market price of each barrel and cubic foot it sells. ConocoPhillips was formed in 2002 when Conoco and Phillips Petroleum merged, and it is based in Houston, Texas.

What believers are saying

  • Profits doubled: adjusted earnings for the quarter ended June 2026 reached $4.0 billion, up from $1.8 billion.
  • Insiders reach the top: CEO Andy O'Brien, who joined Conoco in 1997, took over in September 2026.
  • Alaska gas gets a buyer: a 30-year deal signed in May 2026 supplies North Slope gas to Alaska LNG.

What critics are saying

  • War hits LNG output: conflict curbed Qatar's Ras Laffan plants in March 2026, removing Qatar volumes from guidance.
  • Big bets pay back slowly: Willow in Alaska was half built in April 2026, with first oil in 2029.
  • Job security is shaky: it planned to cut up to 25% of roughly 13,000 workers, with exits from December 2025.

What makes ConocoPhillips unique

  • A pure producer: it spun off refining as Phillips 66 in 2012, so it has no refineries or fuel stations.
  • It owns Alaska's oil heartland: it is the state's largest oil producer, with hubs at Prudhoe Bay and Kuparuk.
  • Shale scale came by acquisition: the $22.5 billion Marathon Oil purchase added Eagle Ford, Bakken and Permian acreage.

BETHESDA, Md. - Twenty military Veterans from across the nation completed five days of intensive golf, wellness and advocacy training at the annual PGA HOPE National Golf & Wellness Week, presented by ConocoPhillips and T-Mobile. Held at the historic Congressional Country Club, the week-long series of events prepares Veterans to serve as National Ambassadors for PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), the flagship military program of the PGA of America REACH Foundation. Each Ambassador returns to their home PGA Section equipped to mentor fellow Veterans, foster community engagement and expand access to golf as a form of physical and mental rehabilitation. "PGA HOPE is more than an introduction to golf, the program provides a life-changing support system for the men and women who have sacrificed for our country," said Scott Kmiec, Executive Director of the PGA of America REACH Foundation. "These 20 Veterans represent the strength, resilience and camaraderie at the heart of our military community. As Ambassadors, they will lead the charge in introducing thousands of their peers to the physical and emotional benefits of the game." PGA HOPE operates at more than 700 locations nationwide, led by over 5,500 PGA of America Golf Professionals trained in adaptive golf techniques and military cultural competency. To date, the program has served more than 70,000 Veterans at zero cost to participants. A highlight of this year's National Golf & Wellness Week included a Sunday evening keynote address by former Navy SEAL and NASA astronaut, Chris Cassidy. Cassidy, now the CEO of the National Medal of Honor Museum, shared stories about his 10 years with the Navy SEALs, as well as his time in space on Endeavor, Expedition 35 and Expedition 62. On Monday, Veterans were joined by Bernie Smoot, a 100-year-old Army Veteran who still plays golf five days a week. After three years of service, including tours in France, Japan and Korea, Smoot was discharged in 1947. Smoot spent Monday on the 10th tee on Congressional, hitting ceremonial tee shots as the groups played through. PGA HOPE National Golf & Wellness Week culminated on Monday, Oct. 19, with a golf event at Congressional Country Club, where Veterans played alongside corporate sponsors, PGA of America Golf Professionals and dignitaries. The historic venue, a frequent host of Major Championships throughout its storied past, is set to host five upcoming PGA of America championships through 2037, including the 2027 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, 2029 PGA Professional Championship, 2030 PGA Championship, 2033 Senior PGA Championship and the 2037 Ryder Cup. US envoy Tom Barrack lobbied for business partner's involvement in $15bn Syria-Iraq pipeline: Report.

US envoy Tom Barrack lobbied for business partner's involvement in $15bn Syria-Iraq pipeline: Report. Barrack's involvement with TI Capital, which will help rehabilitate the Kirkuk-Baniyas pipeline, reportedly violates US government ethics rules OCT 9, 2026 (Photo credit: ap.org) US envoy Thomas Barrack violated US ethics rules by advocating for a firm run by his business partner to help develop an oil pipeline from Iraq to Syria, Reuters reported on 9 October, citing three people familiar with the matter. In July, Iraq and Syria signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) with a consortium made up of TI Capital, run by Barack's business partner Ziad Ghandour, along with Chevron and Qatar's UCC Holding. The documents authorized the consortium to conduct technical and financial studies to prepare to rehabilitate the pipeline between oil-rich Kirkuk in northern Iraq and Baniyas on the Syrian coast. Baghdad and Damascus seek to revive the pipeline, which was shuttered after the illegal US invasion in 2003, as part of a broader effort to bypass the Strait of Hormuz chokepoint. Since the US-Israeli war on Iran began in February, Tehran has restricted tanker traffic through Hormuz, causing Iraqi exports to plunge. Barrack, who serves as President Donald Trump's special envoy to Iraq and Syria and as Ambassador to Turkiye, has a longstanding business relationship with TI Capital and its founder, Ghandour. In 2025, Barak held a stake in TI Capital that entitled him to 20 percent of profits from a real-estate development near San Francisco, California. After the war on Iran began, Barrack lobbied Iraqi and Syrian officials to include Ghandour's TI Capital in the Kirkuk-Baghdad pipeline project, which is expected to cost $15 billion and take four years to complete. In June, one month before the consortium agreement was signed, Barrack and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi issued a joint statement announcing Iraq's decision to sign the MoU with TI Capital to participate in the pipeline project. Reuters stated that it found no evidence that Barrack will directly profit from the pipeline or other projects. Richard Painter, former chief White House ethics lawyer and University of Minnesota Law School professor, says advocating for TI Capital's inclusion violated US ethics rules because of his relationship with Ghandour. Barack's actions violate the impartiality rule, which applies regardless of whether a US official stands to gain financially. His promotion of TI Capital violates a regulation prohibiting officials from using their office to endorse any enterprise or the benefit people with whom they are affiliated, Don Fox, a former general counsel and acting director of the US Office of Government Ethics, explained. Barrack discussed the idea of bringing TI Capital into the Kirkuk-Baniyas pipeline project during the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles in May, one of the sources speaking with Reuters stated. Barrack and Ghandour participated in an invite-only panel at the conference, where they discussed the need for new energy supply lines in West Asia amid the ongoing closure of Hormuz. Iraqi officials have said TI Capital will join another consortium with UCC Holding and ConocoPhillips to assess the Akkas gas field, one of Iraq's largest undeveloped reserves. The firm also states on its website that it is involved in projects at Syria's Tartous port, without providing details. A person close to Barrack said Ghandour is playing a key role in implementing Trump's regional strategy of bringing Iraq and Syria closer to the US. "Ziad is the chosen man. Hand-picked by Barrack," the person said.
