DevOps & InfrastructureDevOps Engineering

About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in DevOps, platform, site reliability engineering, or cloud infrastructure engineering.
  • Hands-on Azure experience across compute, networking, identity, data services, and monitoring.
  • Expertise with Azure DevOps, including YAML pipelines, self-hosted agents, environments and approvals, artifact management, and repository governance. Equivalent depth in GitHub Actions or GitLab CI is acceptable if the candidate can learn Azure DevOps.
  • Production containerization and orchestration experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Scripting and automation experience in Python and either PowerShell or Bash.
  • Experience deploying into hybrid environments, including firewalled targets, private connectivity, and on-premise servers.
  • Demonstrated ownership of production systems, including on-call, incident response, and measurable reliability improvement.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain the platform underlying revenue, production, and AI systems, including pipelines, environments, infrastructure as code, observability, security posture, and deployment paths for cloud services and servers in segmented plant networks.
  • Build and operate the AI platform, including training and inference infrastructure, evaluation gates in continuous integration, endpoint and quota management, and cost controls.
  • Configure Azure DevOps organization and project structure, YAML pipelines, repositories and branch policies, artifact feeds, service connections, environments, and self-hosted agent pools, including agents inside plant and demilitarized-zone networks.
  • Build controlled, repeatable release processes for microservices, integration artifacts, application programming interface layers, and configuration for commercial off-the-shelf platforms such as CPQ, PLM, ERP, and MES.
  • Design approval gates, change records, and audit evidence suited to systems that control manufacturing and shipping while avoiding unnecessary deployment delays.
  • Plan and execute deployments around maintenance windows, shift schedules, quarter-end order volume, and factory operating requirements.
  • Manage infrastructure as code across all environments and prevent manual portal changes from becoming a workflow.
  • Manage Azure Functions, Azure SQL and storage, Service Bus, Event Hubs, API Management, and the data platform.
  • Manage networking and identity, including virtual networks, private endpoints, hub-and-spoke topology, ExpressRoute or site-to-site VPN connectivity to plants, Entra ID, managed identities, Key Vault, and role-based access control.
  • Manage hybrid and edge infrastructure, including Azure Arc for on-premise servers and IoT Edge or IoT Hub where shop-floor systems need local resilience without wide-area network availability.
  • Own environment strategy and lifecycle across development, test, user acceptance testing, and production, including environment refresh and provisioning and test-data management that masks customer, pricing, and design data.
  • Stand up and operate Azure Machine Learning or Azure AI Foundry workspaces, compute and GPU capacity, model registries, and managed inference endpoints.
  • Manage Azure OpenAI and model-provider access, including provisioning, quota and throughput planning, private networking, content-filter configuration, and key and identity management.
  • Extend continuous integration and continuous delivery to AI workloads, including versioning models, prompts, and datasets; implementing automated evaluation gates; and providing reliable rollback.
  • Build production AI observability for latency, errors and abstention rates, token consumption, drift signals, and per-feature cost attribution.
  • Deploy inference on-premise or at plant edges when latency, connectivity, or data policy rules out a cloud round trip.
  • Own AI cost management by making spend attributable and forecastable and raising trade-offs early.
  • Build monitoring and alerting that reflects business impact, and own service-level objectives, dashboards, and incident response for production systems.
  • Drive incident management and blameless postmortems, and convert findings into platform changes.
  • Own pipeline and estate security posture, including secrets management, vulnerability and dependency scanning, container image hygiene, software bill of materials generation, and patch-management coordination, including in operational technology environments with constrained patching windows.
  • Partner with information technology, operational technology, and information security teams on segmentation, access control, and compliance requirements for plant-connected systems.
  • Reduce friction and toil through self-service environments, reusable pipeline templates, and documentation.
  • Mentor engineers on deployment, observability, and operational ownership of the systems they build.
Desired Qualifications
  • MLOps experience with Azure Machine Learning, model registries and inference endpoints, GPU capacity management, or LLMOps, including prompt and evaluation versioning and token cost management.
  • Experience supporting enterprise business systems such as ERP, PLM, CPQ, MES, or integration middleware, and realistic expectations about continuous integration and delivery for commercial platforms.
  • Manufacturing or industrial environment experience, including operational technology network segmentation and plant cybersecurity practices.
  • Data platform operations experience with Data Factory or Fabric, warehouse or lakehouse infrastructure, orchestration, and pipeline reliability.
  • FinOps practice involving cloud cost visibility, allocation, and optimization.
  • Azure certifications such as AZ-400, AZ-104/305, or AI-102, and Kubernetes certifications such as CKA.
  • Experience as an early platform hire establishing standards rather than inheriting them.
  • Production infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or Bicep, including responsible management of multiple environments and state.

Johnson Controls acquires Nantum AI to boost AI-driven energy optimisation in OpenBlue platform

Johnson Controls has acquired Nantum AI, a New York-based developer of AI algorithms for building energy efficiency, to enhance its OpenBlue digital ecosystem. The deal adds advanced AI-driven control capabilities for optimising HVAC systems and reducing energy consumption. Nantum AI's technology enables real-time optimisation of building airflow based on occupancy, extending OpenBlue's capabilities beyond central HVAC systems to include granular, system-wide control. The company has demonstrated energy savings exceeding 10% for customers by leveraging data from occupancy patterns, weather conditions and utility trends. The acquisition expands OpenBlue's optimisation capabilities from water-side systems to include autonomous AI-driven control across both air- and water-side applications. The combined offering is being piloted across complex environments including healthcare campuses and manufacturing facilities.

Ring Capital joins Enerin's Series A to decarbonise high-temperature industrial heat

Enerin, a Norwegian industrial heat pump technology company, has completed the third tranche of its Series A round, adding Paris-based Ring Capital to its investor consortium. The round includes Climentum Capital, The Footprint Firm, Johnson Controls, Move Energy, PSV Hafnium and Momentum. The company's HoegTemp system delivers thermal energy at temperatures up to 250°C, targeting the industrial heat segment responsible for over 20% of global CO2 emissions. Each installation avoids approximately 36,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over its lifetime by replacing fossil-fuel boilers. Enerin is transitioning from development to serial production, with three active pilots and a recent contract with Roche. The funding will scale manufacturing operations and accelerate product development. CEO Arne Høeg said Ring Capital's involvement strengthens the company's ability to deploy solutions across Europe.

Johnson Controls to acquire Alloy Enterprises, boosting data center cooling efficiency by up to 35%

Johnson Controls has signed an agreement to acquire Alloy Enterprises, a Boston-based thermal management technology company, to strengthen its position in the data centre cooling market. Financial terms were not disclosed. Founded in 2020, Alloy Enterprises specialises in advanced direct liquid cooling components that can improve thermal management efficiency by up to 35% and reduce pressure drop by up to 75%, resulting in lower overall cooling system energy use. The company's proprietary Stack Forging manufacturing process creates single-piece components with embedded microgeometries for maximum heat transfer. The acquisition complements Johnson Controls' existing thermal management portfolio and aligns with its strategy to deliver differentiated cooling solutions for AI-driven data centres. The transaction is expected to close in fiscal Q3, subject to regulatory approvals.
