Requirements
  • Hold a respiratory therapist license applicable to the state where services are performed: Maryland Respiratory Care Practitioner, Ohio Respiratory Care Professional, Pennsylvania Respiratory Therapist, or West Virginia Licensed Respiratory Therapist Certified or Licensed Respiratory Therapist Registered.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete department-level Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, STABLE, and Point of Care Technician requirements as established by the department.
  • Be able to remain on their feet and walk for extended periods.
  • Be able to lift, push, and/or pull 40 pounds.
  • Maintain awareness of environmental factors and infection control issues while maintaining a safe patient-care environment.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal communication, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate respiratory therapy patients and provide respiratory therapy care.
  • Administer prescribed respiratory therapeutic services.
  • Perform basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by physician order.
  • Assemble, check, and correct malfunctions in Respiratory Care equipment and perform equipment quality control.
  • Initiate, maintain, and discontinue mechanical ventilation for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with healthcare team members regarding all aspects of patient care.
  • Assist with patient and family or caregiver education alongside other healthcare team members.
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide organizational performance improvement activities.
  • Perform basic and advanced diagnostic procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by physician order.
  • Maintain clinical and professional competency according to established standards of practice.
  • Perform all relevant departmental competencies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hold Registered Respiratory Therapist status.
  • Have two years of respiratory therapist experience.
