Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited or educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in Polysomnography or Respiratory Care, or successful completion of a polysomnography program associated with a state license and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience is required.
  • Registration by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, National Board for Respiratory Care, or Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as RST, RPSGT, RRT-SDS, or CRT-SDS is required, or the candidate must be accepted to sit for the registry examination and obtain registration within 90 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be completed within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • The candidate must have basic computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite software.
Responsibilities
  • Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs and determine final testing parameters and procedures with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
  • Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to patients and respond to study participants’ procedural-related inquiries with appropriate information.
  • Complete and verify documentation, document patient care, maintain medical records, and prepare patient records for physician review.
  • Prepare and calibrate required equipment, apply electrodes and sensors according to published standards, perform physiologic calibrations, and perform routine positive airway pressure mask fitting.
  • Follow protocols for Multiple Sleep Latency Tests, Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests, parasomnia studies, positive airway pressure and oxygen titration, and related procedures.
  • Complete the Larry Head Institute basic electroencephalography video series.
  • Perform sleep and electroencephalography studies according to established guidelines.
  • Oversee and perform difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
  • Score sleep and wake stages using professionally accepted guidelines and score respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, and other clinical events according to center-specific protocols.
  • Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep and wake data and clinical event data.
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, safety and infection-control standards, and Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists Standards of Conduct.
  • Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
