Requirements
  • A doctoral degree with primary study in Clinical Psychology is required.
  • The candidate must be licensed as a psychologist.
  • The candidate must complete one year of supervised clinical internship.
  • The candidate must be CPR certified.
Responsibilities
  • Provide psychological evaluation and psychotherapeutic services to medical patients and, when appropriate, significant others.
  • Consult with physicians and nurses and make recommendations for appropriate services.
  • Function as a clinical resource to members of multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Provide recommendations for program development around issues of health psychology.
  • Supervise doctoral and post-doctoral trainees in psychology when appropriate.
  • Assess new-onset stroke and traumatic brain injury patients and patients with new amputations.
  • Track recovery from traumatic brain injury using the Rancho Los Amigos Scale.
  • Assess patients daily when they have more serious brain injuries.
  • Review coping skills and teach new coping skills.
  • Work with nursing to assist with tracking sleep over a period of days.
  • Contact behavioral health services outpatient providers and schedule follow-up mental health appointments for patients or families after discharge.
  • Co-treat with the therapist to assess barriers to expected patient progress.
