About the job

Requirements
  • Experience leading supply chains in aerospace, defence, space, or advanced manufacturing, including ownership of procurement for complex technical hardware.
  • Experience sourcing products where technical maturity, manufacturing capability, quality, and schedule are as important as price.
  • Ability to understand how engineering decisions affect the supply chain and engage early to prevent problems.
  • Strong commercial judgment in negotiation, supplier economics, and contractual risk.
  • Technical literacy sufficient to understand engineering objectives and challenge requirements intelligently.
  • Experience taking suppliers from identification through assessment, contracting, industrialisation, and ongoing delivery.
  • Comfort operating with immature designs, low initial volumes, and rapidly changing requirements.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate supply-chain risks that could stop a programme.
  • Experience building or materially transforming a supply-chain organisation.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality frameworks and supplier qualification.
  • Comfort operating within UK defence, security, and export-control environments.
  • Ability to build strong teams while remaining willing to personally source suppliers, negotiate agreements, and pursue parts as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Build and own Hypersonica’s UK supply-chain capability from first principles.
  • Develop a secure and resilient supplier network to support complex aerospace and defence hardware from prototype through qualification and increasing production maturity.
  • Lead sourcing and contracting for long-lead, technically complex, and flight-critical hardware.
  • Develop suppliers across advanced materials, precision manufacturing, electronics, avionics, specialist processes, tooling, test equipment, and engineering services.
  • Work with Engineering early in development to translate technical requirements into sourcing and procurement strategies.
  • Personally lead strategically important requests for quotation, sourcing exercises, negotiations, and commercial agreements.
  • Build relationships that encourage critical suppliers to prioritise Hypersonica despite lower initial volumes than established aerospace companies.
  • Assess suppliers’ technical performance, manufacturing maturity, quality, capacity, commercial strength, security, and delivery capabilities.
  • Work with Manufacturing and Quality to take suppliers from prototype delivery through qualification, industrialisation, and repeatable production.
  • Establish supplier onboarding, performance-management, and risk-management systems.
  • Identify and manage risks involving single-source components, capacity, long-lead materials, geopolitical dependency, and supplier financial resilience.
  • Ensure purchasing and supplier activities comply appropriately with UK export-control, defence-security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiate agreements that protect schedule, quality, intellectual property, commercial position, and long-term supply.
  • Support make-versus-buy decisions and the development of the UK industrial strategy.
  • Coordinate with Logistics to ensure critical hardware moves reliably between suppliers, company locations, and test sites.
  • Build systems, processes, and documentation that support scale without unnecessary procurement bureaucracy.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead the UK Supply Chain team as the business grows.
  • Coordinate with the Germany counterpart and wider Group leadership to align regional supply chains as appropriate.
  • Travel regularly to suppliers and other company locations to resolve problems in person.
  • Support future operations and locations as manufacturing and test facilities develop and business needs require.

About the company

Hypersonica GmbH develops hypersonic technology for aerospace and defense in Europe, aiming for speeds of Mach 5 and above. Its focus is on hypersonic vehicles that require advanced propulsion, heat-resistant materials, and complex aerodynamics, developed in stealth mode for dual-use government and future civil high-speed transport. The company is backed by investors including General Catalyst, 201 Ventures, ESA BIC, and TUM Venture Labs, with involvement in European accelerator networks for early-stage support. Its goal is to strengthen Europe’s resilience and space sovereignty by building private-sector hypersonic capabilities for defense and potential civilian high-speed applications.

What believers are saying

  • February 2026 testing validated systems through ascent, descent, and subcomponent performance.
  • Hypersonica targets full-scale flight tests in Q1 2026 and operational capability by 2029.
  • NATO demand for deep precision strike gives Hypersonica a ready defense budget pull.

What critics are saying

  • Hypersonic strike programs face export controls, range access, and government customer delays.
  • Competitors like MBDA and Roxel can outspend Hypersonica on follow-on tests.
  • A single failed flight before 2027 would crush credibility and capital access.

What makes Hypersonica unique

  • Hypersonica flew Mach 6 from Andøya Space on February 3, 2026.
  • It claims Europe’s first privately funded hypersonic missile flight.
  • Plural, SPRIND, General Catalyst, and 201 Ventures back its 2026 roadmap.

Munich's Hypersonica raises €23.3M Series A, tests hypersonic missile at Mach 6

Munich-based hypersonic systems startup Hypersonica has emerged from stealth with a €23.3 million Series A funding round led by Plural and a successful test launch. Founded in December 2023, the company is developing Europe's first privately funded hypersonic strike capability. On 3 February, Hypersonica launched a missile prototype from Andøya Space in Norway, reaching speeds exceeding Mach 6 and a range over 300 kilometres. The company completed the vehicle's development in just nine months. The Series A round included participation from Germany's Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation, General Catalyst and 201 Ventures. Hypersonica aims to deliver an initial short-range hypersonic strike capability by 2027 and fully operational hypersonic glide vehicles by 2029, targeting NATO member states' defence requirements.
