  • Candidates must achieve an acceptable rating on the Interpreter Assessment Evaluation during the interview process.
  • Candidates must attach their interpreter certificate.
  • Candidates must have bilingual oral and written skills and bicultural skills.
  • Candidates must have medical interpreting skills, including accuracy and memory.
  • Candidates must have basic anatomy and physiology vocabulary in English and Spanish.
  • Candidates must have one year of experience working as an interpreter in a healthcare environment.
  • Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Candidates must work in a normal office and outpatient clinical environment and adhere to safety procedures.
  • A third language is preferred, particularly Russian or Haitian Creole.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate clinical communication between hospital staff and patients.
  • Interpret between clinicians and patients during face-to-face or telephone encounters.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and staff.
  • Inform clinicians about cultural considerations when treating Spanish-speaking patients.
  • Interpret for ancillary departments.
  • Interpret between non-clinical staff and patients as needed.
  • Provide support and coverage for the Interpreter Services Coordinator as needed.
  • Edit translated materials.
  • Identify areas where the hospital can better meet the needs of Spanish communities, including outreach and signage.
  • Explain the interpreter model to clinicians and patients.
  • Assist with training staff interpreters.
  • Orient patients to the hospital as needed, including labor and delivery tours and community events.
  • Perform on-call services on evenings and weekends or holidays as needed.
  • Assist with Community Health classes requiring a Spanish interpreter.
  • Assist in the coordination and scheduling of interpreters.
  • Assist with data entry and data collection.
  • Complete interpreter paperwork promptly.
  • Assist with scheduling and confirming patient appointments as needed.
  • Support patients outside their clinical appointments with issues relating to their care at the hospital.
  • Contribute to developing an environment that is welcoming and responsive to patients.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a third language is preferred, particularly Russian or Haitian Creole.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
