Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • The position requires lifting, climbing, stooping, bending, and carrying up to 50 pounds up ladders and onto platforms.
  • The position requires the cognitive and mental ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Mechanical aptitude is beneficial.
Responsibilities
  • Promote a safe working environment.
  • Understand and adhere to all Silgan safety policies and procedures to prevent injury to self and coworkers.
  • Verify daily that the resins and colorants designated for each production line are accurate with the PIC sheet on each line and document the information on the Production OEE form.
  • Complete the daily scrap report on a computer, detailing resin and colorant usage, regrind, and scrap generation.
  • Ensure regrind is used on all lines while maintaining proper levels at each machine, with no more than one excess Gaylord by any machine.
  • Set up blenders, calibrate them, and change material formulas as necessary.
  • Evaluate colorant usage, verify that colorant is not overused, and perform visual color checks on bottles.
  • Calculate usage and mix color standards (LTD) according to customer-approved standards or the target letdown ratio designated on the PIC sheet.
  • Transport material, including regrind and colorants, to and from the warehouse and scan the material.
  • Perform line clearances on completed production lines and clean the entire material system.
  • Ensure that all used Gaylords on the production floor have been properly defaced by removing the original-use signage stickers.
  • Keep areas around grinders, blenders, and day bins clean and free of regrind and dust.
  • Communicate changes in regrind percentages and accumulated excess regrind to operators.
  • Check cyclone dust-collection bags on each line and empty and clean them as necessary, ensuring dust does not exceed 20 pounds.
  • Clean vacuum-pump filters daily.
  • Connect and operate the railcar unloading system according to all proper procedures.
  • Ensure that no resin is spilled on the ground or around the railcar area; immediately clean up any spills.
  • Identify and weigh all material chunks by production line and dispose of them in the proper location.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor or acting supervisor, such as covering breaks, cleaning, rework, and unloading resin into Gaylords.
  • Communicate oncoming-shift activity on the production floor and upcoming changes.
