Requirements
  • Experience with converters ranging from kilowatts to hundreds of kilowatts, battery inverters, or grid-forming and grid-tied systems.
  • A background in lithium iron phosphate battery systems, diesel generator sets, or microgrids.
  • Familiarity with Underwriters Laboratories, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, or military power standards.
Responsibilities
  • Architect and design the in-house inverter and direct-current-to-direct-current stages for MESH, including topology, device selection across metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors, gallium nitride, and silicon carbide, gate drive, magnetics, and thermal design.
  • Take converters from schematic and simulation through prototype, bring-up, and testing under real load.
  • Design for efficiency, electromagnetic interference, ruggedization, and thermal survival in maritime and expeditionary conditions.
  • Define the control approach for the power stage in collaboration with firmware on the control loops.
  • Own component selection, protection, and safety margins, and lead the design and selection of power electronics.
  • Drive power electronics design across the full cycle, carrying converters through to working hardware.
  • Perform hands-on switching design using metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors, gallium nitride, or silicon carbide, including gate drive and magnetics.
  • Solve thermal, electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility, and layout problems associated with high-power, high-frequency switching.
  • Use oscilloscopes, probes, and power analyzers at the bench to debug circuit boards.
  • Design from first principles.
