We currently have an opportunity to join our Bereavement Services team as a Bereavement Services Support Officer.

Your role:  

We are looking for a compassionate, organised and customer-focused individual to provide comprehensive administrative support to our Bereavement Services team.

Working closely with funeral directors, members of the public, contractors and operational colleagues, you will help ensure the smooth delivery of burial and cemetery services across East Suffolk. You will be responsible for processing applications, maintaining accurate records, responding to enquiries and supporting families and customers with empathy and professionalism.

No two days will be the same. One day you may be processing burial applications and updating cemetery records, while the next you could be assisting funeral directors with arrangements, supporting visitors to our cemeteries, or managing financial and administrative processes that help keep the service running efficiently.

The role also involves maintaining cemetery records, supporting memorial applications, co-ordinating administrative processes, monitoring income and expenditure records, and ensuring all information is managed accurately and confidentially in line with GDPR requirements.

What you will need:  

You will have experience working in a busy administrative or customer service environment, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining excellent attention to detail.

As a confident communicator, you'll be comfortable dealing with enquiries by telephone, email and in person. Most importantly, you'll be able to support customers in sensitive circumstances with empathy, discretion and professionalism.

You will also have:

• Experience in a varied administrative support role.

• Strong organisational and time management skills.

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

• Experience maintaining accurate records and handling confidential information.

• An understanding of GDPR and data protection principles.

• Experience of financial administration and processing invoices or purchase orders.

• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

• A flexible approach and the ability to manage changing priorities.

• A full driving licence is essential for this role.

Experience of working within bereavement services, funeral services or a similar environment would be advantageous, as would experience supporting grieving or distressed customers.
