About the job

Requirements
  • The candidate is pursuing or holds a degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or has equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience sourcing electrical or mechanical components through personal projects, coursework, internships, or professional work.
  • Ability to read bills of materials, schematics, and mechanical drawings well enough to conduct informed sourcing discussions with engineers and suppliers.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with suppliers and internal teams and document decisions and trade-offs.
  • Exposure to contract manufacturing, printed circuit board assembly, or hardware production workflows.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous, fast-changing environments while processes are still being built.
Responsibilities
  • Source, qualify, and manage relationships with component suppliers, distributors, and contract manufacturers.
  • Own bill-of-materials cost, lead-time, and availability tracking across mechanical and electrical subsystems.
  • Partner with electrical and mechanical engineering teams on design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly reviews.
  • Manage procurement and purchase orders while balancing cost, lead time, and inventory risk.
  • Identify and mitigate component obsolescence and single-source risk across the bill of materials.
  • Coordinate with overseas and domestic manufacturing partners on quoting, tooling, and production timelines for printed circuit board assembly, injection molding, computer numerical control machining, and sheet metal.
  • Support incoming quality inspection and work with suppliers to resolve nonconformances.
  • Track and forecast inventory needs as build volumes scale from prototype to pilot to production.
  • Build and refine internal processes, including purchase-order workflows, supplier scorecards, and inventory systems.
  • Assess supply-chain contingencies and establish backup plans for raw-material shortages to ensure reliability.
  • Ensure raw materials and production processes meet product standards and maintain high-quality supplier relationships.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience working directly with suppliers or contract manufacturers, including quoting, negotiating, expediting, and resolving issues.
  • Understanding of cost and lead-time trade-offs behind component selection and willingness to challenge engineering choices when necessary.
  • Experience with international manufacturing partners, such as China-based printed circuit board assembly, mechanical, or plastics vendors, including logistics and import considerations.
  • Ability to move quickly through iteration cycles without waiting for perfect information.
  • Ability to take ownership of work end to end, from sourcing decisions to parts arriving ready to build.
  • Experience working effectively in small, collaborative teams where supply chain, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering work closely together.

About the company

Human Computer Lab builds expressive, character-driven robots for everyday home use, focusing on emotionally resonant devices rather than purely functional machines. Their first product, LeLamp, is an open-source robotic lamp that can look toward a user’s point, respond to voice, and perform playful gestures, turning a common object into a social partner. They differentiate themselves by prioritizing human–computer interaction and character in everyday objects, with an approach that starts small (the “iPod of robotics”) before expanding to broader consumer robotics. Their goal is to bring robotics into homes through engaging, familiar devices and to develop a scalable platform for a new generation of home robotics.

What believers are saying

  • LeLamp has active preorders and plans broader pilots in mid-late 2026.
  • South Park Commons spotlighting at its July 2026 Demo Faire validates investor and talent interest.
  • The company is recruiting robotics, electrical, industrial-design, and controls talent across North America.

What critics are saying

  • LeLamp remains early development; GitHub shows no releases and hobbyist-kit beta timing slips.
  • Big incumbents like Apple research, Samsung Ballie, Amazon Astro, and 1X crowd the category.
  • No clear revenue engine exists beyond preorders; a missed 2026 launch kills momentum.

What makes Human Computer Lab unique

  • Shahvir Sarkary frames home robotics as an interface problem, not humanoid labor.
  • LeLamp blends expressive motion, voice response, and open-source hardware around Apple ELEGNT.
  • Human Computer Lab targets emotionally resonant companion robots before scaling to broader home platforms.
