Requirements
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, medical documentation requirements, and technical and administrative correspondence and reports necessary for completing patient records.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to perform the contract work.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required; web-based classes are not acceptable.
  • The candidate must pass a tuberculosis test, background/security investigation, pre-employment drug screening, and DHA vaccination requirements.
  • The candidate must maintain good personal hygiene and a well-groomed, professional appearance in accordance with the policy at the place of performance.
  • The work requires prolonged sedentary activity, intense concentration, repetitive manual tasks, and some walking, standing, bending, and lifting of multiple files.
  • The candidate must manage periods of rapidly changing pace and perform all duties professionally and ethically.
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors at the clinic front desk and check patients in for encounters.
  • Answer the main office phone line and receive and screen calls from patients, physicians, emergency-room personnel, clinics, departments, medical treatment facilities, and Department of Defense installations.
  • Schedule medical appointments, determine patient eligibility for services, and create appointment schedules and templates in the patient appointment computer system.
  • Conduct end-of-day processing and resolve delinquent or pending appointments in the computer system.
  • Obtain documentation requested by healthcare providers and perform administrative and clerical duties supporting medical care and operations.
  • Provide radiology scheduling services and use the medical treatment facility automated radiology patient scheduling system to schedule examinations.
  • Share information about office procedures, medical-record requirements, formats, standards of acceptability, and use of the Radiology Information System.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact and information receptionist for Radiology Department staff, patients, family members, visitors, and military personnel.
  • Check in and update patient records, assist patients with forms and question sheets, provide educational materials or videotapes, and coordinate patient flow through the department.
  • Maintain records of patients treated and examinations performed.
  • Remind patients of upcoming appointments by telephone.
  • Provide patient images upon request.
  • Retrieve and load x-ray studies on Digital Imaging, Network and Picture Archiving Computer System workstations for radiologist interpretation.
  • Forward incoming calls appropriately after determining their nature and following department guidelines.
  • Maintain contact with beneficiaries, staff members, healthcare providers, clinics, hospitals, and Department of Defense installations by telephone, in person, and electronic mail.
  • Respond to administrative inquiries about radiological images, dictated reports, and administrative matters, and refer medical questions about patient conditions or dictated reports to healthcare providers.
  • Contact patients, healthcare providers, clinics, hospitals, and Department of Defense installations by telephone or electronic mail as directed by radiology staff and radiologists.
  • Transport patients to and from the Radiology Department for examinations, procedures, and tests in other departments within the medical treatment facility.
  • Use proper patient-transport techniques, obtain and return transport equipment, and use protective devices for patients with communicable diseases.
  • Relay and receive information about scheduled medical procedures and communicate with medical treatment facility staff as necessary.
