The Utah Jazz is a professional basketball team in the NBA’s Western Conference based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The team competes in regular-season and playoff games at its home arena, the Delta Center, and builds its season around winning games and entertaining fans. On the court, the Jazz won two Western Conference titles in the late 1990s led by John Stockton and Karl Malone and have remained a competitive franchise through different eras, including strong showings in the 2020–21 season. The team distinguishes itself through a passionate, loyal hometown fan base and active community involvement in a small-market area, even as it adapts through rebuilding periods. Its overarching goal is to guide the club toward championships while sustaining strong attendance and community engagement.

What believers are saying

  • Darryn Peterson arrived with the No. 2 pick on August 18, 2026.
  • The Kessler deal added 2031, 2033 firsts and 2028, 2030 swaps.
  • SEG’s 2026 facility build and Intermountain partnership improve recruiting, recovery, and retention.

What critics are saying

  • The 22-60 2025-26 season and Walker Kessler trade signal a long rebuild through 2028.
  • Delta Center’s three-summer overhaul will disrupt operations, spending, and fan experience through 2027.
  • If Darryn Peterson and Ace Bailey miss quickly, Utah becomes a perpetual development franchise.

What makes National Basketball Association unique

  • Ryan Smith’s SEG owns the Jazz, Mammoth, Delta Center, and Sandy practice campus.
  • The 2028 Intermountain Health Sports Performance Center unifies NBA and NHL medicine.
  • Salt Lake City still delivers rare small-market loyalty and high attendance for rebuilding seasons.

Suns owner Mat Ishbia dismisses $450M mortgage loss impact on team spending

Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia said his mortgage company's financial troubles will have "zero" effect on his basketball operations. United Wholesale Mortgage reported a $450 million net loss in the second quarter this year. Despite this, the 46-year-old billionaire is working to purchase an additional 14% of the team, bringing his ownership stake to roughly 80%. Ishbia, who bought the Suns and Phoenix Mercury in 2022 for $4 billion, insisted the mortgage company's performance won't impact spending on players or fan experience. He noted UWM still employs 9,000 people and remains well-positioned going forward. The Suns finished last season 45-37 and return most of their roster.

NBA's European basketball league attracts bids close to $1B from 120+ investors

The NBA has received multiple bids exceeding $500 million, with some approaching $1 billion, for clubs in its proposed European basketball league, according to a source. More than 120 investors participated in the non-binding bid process that closed on Tuesday. The league plans to launch in autumn 2027 with 14 to 16 teams across 12 European cities, including London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Milan, Berlin and Istanbul. It will operate as a distinct entity from the NBA, with 10 to 12 permanent members and remaining slots earned through qualification. The NBA will now review bids and select preferred partners with input from its Board of Governors. Team announcements are expected in stages. The league is also exploring collaboration with EuroLeague rather than competition, with discussions expected to resume soon.
