Compensation Overview

What you’ll do

Build and release engineers at Scout are responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the end-to-end CI/CD process that builds software to be deployed into Scout vehicles as well as the iOS and Android mobile companion apps that extend the infotainment platform to external devices.  Build and release engineers are also responsible for the delivery software updates to test benches and vehicles, over-the-air updates to production vehicles, as well as updates to both internal and external mobile apps in the Apple and Android app stores.  Build and release engineers collaborate cross-functionally with both internal and external stakeholders, including IVI and mobile app software engineers, software quality engineers, the platform team, and 3rd party software and hardware suppliers to provide Scout customers with a seamless, defect-free HMI experience

• Design and implement stable, maintainable, extensible, and performant CI/CD pipelines
• Manage the release trains that delivers new features, enhancements, and bug fixes to test, validation, and production environments
• Maintain the build environments for development, integration, and deployments.
• Manage the release process for mobile apps and test benches, and OTA updates for test and production vehicles
• Build, validate, integrate, and release Linux and Android/AAOS from source
• Author process documentation, technical specifications, and delivery plans; define roadmaps
• Track and leverage new DevOps, CI/CD, and release management technologies and processes
• Collaborate with other cross-functional engineering and validation teams to support whole-vehicle build, release, and OTA update processes

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Fremont, California. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

• BS/MS degree in computer science or related field
• Extensive knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud services
• Working knowledge of iOS, Android/AOSP, QNX, and/or Linux
• Working knowledge of C/C++, Python, and/or Typescript/Node.js
• Excellent software development skills using Python, Typescript/Node.js, and/or OS scripting
• Extensive experience with build tools, including Git, Gradle, NPM, GNU Make, Jenkins, and Xcode & Android build tools
• Highly productive and motivated, able to work independently with minimal direction; able to transform ambiguity into actionable deliverables
• 5+ years of software development experience
• 7+ years of industry experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent collaborative skills, ability to provide and receive guidance
• Effective problem solving skills, able to consider alternative options and select the optimal solution
• Thoughtful, pragmatic approach that considers tradeoffs
• Embraces software engineering KPIs, including delivery velocity, quality, planning

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $165,000-$185,000
