Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Work or volunteer experience with school-age children is required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required and may be obtained through Parks & Recreation.
  • The selected candidate may be required to pass a Kansas Bureau of Investigation background check.
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
  • Applicants must pass a drug test.
  • The selected candidate must attend all required in-service training sessions.
  • The candidate must be able to safely operate motor vehicles to transport program participants.
Responsibilities
  • Work directly with campers and youth and adult program participants.
  • Implement and direct daily activities, including life sports, arts and crafts, games, musical activities, and outdoor recreational programs.
  • Lead informal education programs on a variety of topics for youth and adult audiences.
  • Assist Educator II staff, Camp Directors, the Curator of Education, and Education Supervisors in developing safe, inclusive, age-appropriate, and engaging programs.
  • Accompany campers on field trips and visits to public recreational facilities.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to a group of children or youth under the direction of a group leader.
  • Carry out program activities.
  • Operate motor vehicles safely to pick up and transport program participants to and from programs, field trips, and other daily activities.
  • Maintain independence and flexibility in program delivery to accommodate changing conditions and participant needs.
  • Foster positive, healthy relationships with children and youth.
  • Maintain open communication with program participants and their parents.
  • Perform minor first aid for injuries occurring during education programs.
  • Work the assigned program schedule, which may include daytime hours, evenings, weekends, and seasonal or year-round programming.
Desired Qualifications
  • First Aid, CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator certification is preferred.
