Energy stocks surge as Chevron's refining profit hits a record $4.93B

Energy stocks are outperforming the broader market after Chevron, ExxonMobil, and BP reported strong profits, driven by tight refining capacity. BP's profit hit its highest level in 18 years. Exxon beat profit expectations and raised its dividend for the 44th straight year. Chevron beat estimates, with refining profit at a record $4.93 billion. Chevron and Exxon trade at about 15 times forward earnings, in line with history. That suggests investors expect high profits to last, even with oil near $100. Chevron says Venezuelan barrels cost about $20 or less to produce. It expects output of 300,000 barrels a day by year-end and wants to reach 600,000.
