Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
  • A current, unrestricted registered nurse license in the state where the program operates is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification, first aid certification, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification are required.
  • Five years of experience as a registered nurse and two years of management experience are required.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
  • Candidates must pass pre-employment and random drug screens.
  • Candidates must provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Candidates must pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Candidates must communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
  • Candidates must maintain computer literacy sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Candidates must work effectively both independently and as members of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Candidates must demonstrate working knowledge of Compass Connections policies and procedures.
  • Candidates must complete and sign the Operations Policy and Procedure review and certification.
  • Candidates must provide a current physical-medical release and proof of required immunizations, titers, or declinations.
  • Candidates must be able to perform extensive walking, lift patients, stretch, and bend.
  • Candidates must maintain oral, written, listening, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Employees must receive an annual influenza vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption.
Responsibilities
  • Meet and maintain all applicable federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards.
  • Develop medical clinic staffing schedules and assignments and resolve staffing gaps.
  • Provide medical staff with training to ensure competence and compliance with program training requirements.
  • Train Compass Connections staff and the service population on medical issues, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, Basic Life Support, emergency calls, contagious disease control, quality health care, and emergency response preparedness.
  • Validate completion of nursing duties in compliance with regulatory authorities and program protocols, including nursing assessments, charting, appointment scheduling, observations, wellness checks, immunizations, and required reports and progress notes.
  • Supervise, direct, and oversee site medical staff delivering medical services under healthcare plans and treatment orders.
  • Ensure physician and advanced-practice-provider treatment orders, including medication administration, are implemented as ordered.
  • Communicate with pharmacies to order prescription medications, verify medication deliveries, and remediate discrepancies.
  • Consult with medical and executive leadership on health care policy, procedure, quality of care, and contagious disease control issues.
  • Maintain over-the-counter medication supplies and arrange disposal of unused and expired medications.
  • Maintain documentation and reconciliation of controlled drugs according to facility protocols and procedures.
  • Provide required facility documentation and reporting within Compass Connections, federal, and state deadlines.
  • Oversee development and audit medication administration records for each child.
  • Arrange transportation for children to medical, dental, therapy, counseling, laboratory, and other health care appointments.
  • Participate in developing health and medical protocols and procedures for the federal program.
  • Perform and supervise nursing duties at designated sites in accordance with Texas Board of Nursing guidelines and best practices.
  • Supervise, direct, and train medical staff and coordinate services according to applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Implement and monitor healthcare plans prescribed by an advanced practice provider or physician.
  • Complete accurate site documentation in accordance with agency, contract, program, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review, write, and update medical protocols and procedures with Medical Services and the Professional Management Team.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, team decisions, and operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in accordance with HIPAA, Protected Health Information requirements, and agency protocols.
  • Apply positive behavior-management techniques, including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and containment.
  • Recognize signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and sexually provocative behavior and implement professional response, reporting, and documentation procedures.
  • Implement safety protocols, including evacuating with children and staff during emergencies.
  • Remain available for on-call scheduling and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize daily work using sound judgment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of the service population and program operations.
  • Meet program and federal-partner deadlines and maintain professional and ethical standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred.
  • Meningococcal immunization is preferred.
