Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline is required, unless substituted by eight years of additional relevant experience.
  • At least two years of experience in IT technical support, help desk, or system administration is required.
  • Candidates must meet the physical requirements of the role, including lifting equipment up to 50 pounds and performing the described movement and mobility tasks.
  • Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to obtain Public Trust Suitability clearance.
  • Candidates must meet updated identification requirements or be willing and able to update their identification documents in time to complete the suitability process.
  • Candidates may need to provide proof of current, facility-specific vaccinations and testing, including yearly flu vaccination, tuberculosis testing with a negative result, and vaccination records or titer testing for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and/or varicella.
Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot computer systems and equipment for the Government, ensuring their proper operation and user satisfaction.
  • Provide remote and desk-side technical support, respond to IT support tickets, and diagnose and repair hardware and software issues.
  • Set up and maintain user accounts, interface with other software applications, compile reports, and respond to customer requests.
  • Maintain Active Directory and other system accounts; support connectivity and client applications; and assist with configuring and supporting local and wide area network services.
  • Monitor open tickets in the VA ServiceNow customer incident ticketing system to ensure business-process adherence, report discrepancies, and propose corrective actions for approval before implementation.
  • Handle electronic components carefully and follow safety precautions to prevent injury or equipment damage.
  • Use debugging protocols and processes.
  • Troubleshoot customer-reported problems and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Facilitate equipment returns and deployments, including unboxing, inventorying, and verification.
  • Lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and bend, twist, squat, reach, climb, or crawl as needed to access and repair equipment.
  • Stand and move throughout the work area for prolonged periods.
  • During temporary surge-capacity periods, provide additional support that may involve travel for up to 12 consecutive days; travel will be coordinated in advance. Overtime is not authorized for surge-capacity work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience conducting routine system administration tasks and recording data in system administration logs.
  • Knowledge of debugging protocols and processes.
  • Knowledge of IT principles and practices, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and a basic understanding of system administration in a Windows environment.
