About the job

Requirements
  • Pursuing a PhD degree in a relevant discipline: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
  • Strong programming ability in at least one of C, C++, Python, or Rust.
  • A track record of research contributions in programming languages, compilers, runtime systems, parallel algorithms, formal verification, agentic software authoring or optimization, or related fields.
  • Published academic papers in the candidate's field of research.
Responsibilities
  • Develop algorithms and design software extending the state of the art in parallel computing, machine learning, data analytics, and related technology areas.
  • Invent techniques, technologies, methodologies, and processes to enable new products or product types; deliver results through prototypes, patents, products, and publications.
  • Produce technology vision and foundations for products 5–10 years in the future, focusing on future capabilities rather than products currently shipping or in development, except to extend and improve them.
  • Develop novel solutions and build prototype software, then work with product teams to integrate ideas into NVIDIA's accelerated computing platform.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of relevant industrial and university experience; relevant industries include hardware, software, and algorithm development on desktop, mobile, embedded, and datacenter systems.
  • Expertise applying programming-systems insights and techniques to machine learning, data science, or distributed computing problems.
  • Expertise using AI to author, optimize, verify, and maintain software.
  • Ability to implement ideas to run on a GPU.
  • Experience building software systems used by other developers to solve their own problems.

About the company

NVIDIA designs and manufactures graphics processing units (GPUs) and computing platforms used for gaming, data centers, and artificial intelligence. These products work by using parallel processing to handle complex mathematical calculations much faster than standard computer processors, supported by a software ecosystem that allows developers to build and run AI models. Unlike competitors that may focus solely on hardware, NVIDIA integrates its chips with specialized software and cloud services to create a complete environment for high-performance tasks. The company’s goal is to provide the underlying technology necessary to power advanced computing, from realistic video game graphics to autonomous vehicles and large-scale data analysis.

What believers are saying

  • September 28, 2026 board approval added $150 billion buyback authorization, signaling cash generation strength.
  • ByteDance and Alibaba chip-purchase reports on September 27, 2026 reopen a blocked China revenue stream.
  • Over 100 partners joined Open Agent Safety Platform at launch, including Microsoft, JPMorganChase, and SpaceXAI.

What critics are saying

  • China’s September 27, 2026 RTX PRO 5500 reports show export controls still throttle Nvidia sales.
  • OpenAI, Meta, and Google incidents prove agent safety failures can taint Nvidia’s platform credibility fast.
  • A 2027 AI spending downturn would crush data-center demand and expose Nvidia’s customer concentration.

What makes NVIDIA unique

  • CUDA and Blackwell lock developers into Nvidia’s software-hardware stack, unlike commodity chip rivals.
  • September 28, 2026 Open Agent Safety Platform extends Nvidia into agent governance and robotics.
  • BlueField-4 and Vera CPUs let Nvidia control data-center security, networking, and compute together.

Cathie Wood dumps $110M of AMD, buys Nvidia and Broadcom

Cathie Wood's ARK Invest sold $110 million worth of Advanced Micro Devices shares whilst purchasing $81.04 million of Nvidia and $25.56 million of Broadcom. This follows a similar transaction on 28 August, when ARK sold $74.5 million of AMD and bought $55.6 million of Nvidia and $20.5 million of Broadcom. The moves come as AMD recently acquired Fei-Fei Li's AI business World Labs for $8.2 billion in shares. Meanwhile, Nvidia reported fiscal second-quarter sales rising 106% to $96.22 billion and added $150 billion to its share-repurchase authorisation. Broadcom's fiscal third-quarter AI revenue rose 221% to $16.7 billion, with the company forecasting fiscal 2027 AI sales to exceed $115 billion. ARK has not explained the AMD sales.

Nvidia's CUDA software dominance challenged by DeepSeek-Huawei open-source alliance

DeepSeek has partnered with Huawei Technologies to develop open-source software for Huawei's Ascend AI chips, challenging Nvidia's CUDA platform. The collaboration includes TileLang, an open-source programming language offering a simpler alternative to CUDA, and a 128-chip Ascend 950 supernode with optimised software. Nvidia's CUDA currently serves more than 7.5 million developers. The company has warned that US export restrictions have helped rivals build larger ecosystems in China that could challenge it globally. TileLang is not yet a full CUDA replacement, which has accumulated nearly two decades of tools and infrastructure. Gregory Allen of the Center for Strategic and International Studies estimates shifting workloads away from CUDA would likely take years.
