Role Overview:

We are seeking Data Collectors to conduct observations in Pre-Kindergarten classrooms across the District of Columbia (OSSE) using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System also known as the CLASS tool. These observations are an integral component of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education which aims to provide quality data to classroom teachers and programs. Observers must be trained and reliable on the CLASS tool for the age level being observed, or be willing to be trained and become reliable. Observers must keep their CLASS certification current throughout the project and complete ongoing calibration as directed by project leadership. ***PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS A CONTRACT POSITION AND TRAVEL UP TO ONE HOUR EACH WAY FOR AN OBSERVATION IS REQUIRED. OVERNIGHT TRAVEL IS NOT REQUIRED ALTHOUGH THERE MAY BE OPPORTUNITIES TO DO SO IF THE NEED ARISES.***

Observation Locations: 

District of Columbia, Maryland, Northern Virginia (100 mile radius from Washington, DC) 

Availability:

• Be available to conduct observations at least three to five days per week between January and May 2025. 
• Be available for mandatory project-specific training throughout the duration of the project. 
• Project-specific training times and dates will be set during the course of the project.
• A mandatory project information session will be held and must be attended by Observers prior to being scheduled for an observation.
• Participate in a weekly project check-in meeting throughout the project's duration.
• Complete data entry and other post-observation work as defined by project leadership in a timely manner as defined by project leadership 
• Complete ongoing fidelity checks as required. 

Certification, Fidelity and Data Collection:

• Current Pre-K CLASS tool certification OR willingness to attend a virtual training and pass an online certification test.
• Participate successfully in ongoing calibrations and fidelity checks as directed by project leadership.
• Within 24 hours of each observation, complete post-observation data entry
• Adhere strictly to all CLASS observation and project-specific protocols at all stages of the project, from training and certification, to observation and data entry, and record-keeping.
• Interact with school administration, office staff, and teachers in a professional and courteous manner.
• Use online communication and invoicing tools such as Slack and Bill.com (training on specific platforms provided).
• Conduct six cycles of CLASS Pre-K observations. 
• Travel around the District of Columbia area, using GPS and other tools to efficiently complete observations. 

You Bring:

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field; Child development or Education preferred.
• Fluent in English  and other languages needed for project such as Spanish, French,Mandarin, and Amharic
• Experience using the CLASS tool to conduct live observations is preferred.
• Experience conducting observations or administering assessments in school settings is preferred.
• Experience in quantitative or qualitative data collection is preferred.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, punctuality, and organization
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
•  Passion and commitment to education and education research 
• Pass state/federal background check and fingerprinting 
• Complete Mandated Reporter 
•  Provide TB test

Compensation: $300-350 per observation
