About the job

Requirements
  • A PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, biophysics, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with targeted lipid nanoparticle formulation, manufacturing, characterization, stress, stability, and comparative studies, or a combination thereof.
  • Expertise in advanced analytical instrumentation and nanoparticle characterization, including Cryo-EM, SAXS, DLS, NTA, DSC, fluorescence, and optical techniques.
  • Hands-on experimental expertise, analytical data generation and curation experience, quantitative data analysis, multivariate statistics, and interest in developing interpretable machine-learning approaches.
  • Ability to integrate complex formulation, process, stability, biophysical, bioanalytical, and functional datasets from internal and external sources, apply scientific judgment, and communicate insights clearly.
  • A record of scientific productivity, including publications, presentations, or demonstrated research accomplishments.
  • Problem-solving skills, including critical thinking, data interpretation, and scientific judgment.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to present complex scientific concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work independently while seeking input and feedback from peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and fast-paced environment.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
Responsibilities
  • Own and execute fit-for-purpose targeted lipid nanoparticle analytical-data programs, incorporating internally generated data and data received predominantly from external laboratories and contract research organizations, in alignment with project objectives.
  • Design experiments and analytical workflows; define data-transfer, quality-assessment, and documentation requirements for internally and externally generated datasets; and establish consistent reporting standards to support high-quality targeted lipid nanoparticle development and decision-making.
  • Define and manage batch metadata, sampling strategies, sample-tracking requirements, and provenance for samples and data generated internally or received from external partners.
  • Build, integrate, curate, and maintain validated multimodal characterization datasets across analytical platforms, initially emphasizing data generation, quality assessment, harmonization, and curation.
  • Analyze and harmonize quantitative features related to particle size, morphology, aggregation, thermal behavior, spectroscopy, encapsulation, and accessibility.
  • After establishing a sufficiently curated analytical dataset, develop and apply interpretable statistical, computational, and machine-learning approaches to identify quality-relevant attributes, fingerprint batches, assess heterogeneity and stability risks, and evaluate structure–function relationships.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges; assess the quality, completeness, and interpretability of internally and externally generated analytical data; recommend alternative approaches; and design targeted follow-up experiments or analyses.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams by communicating scientific plans, progress, results, and recommendations.
  • Contribute to publications, abstracts, presentations, patent filings, and other scientific communications.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant scientific literature, emerging technologies, and external developments in the field.
  • Conduct work in alignment with applicable safety, quality, compliance, and documentation expectations.

What believers are saying

  • Apogee acquisition closed in 2026, expanding AbbVie’s immunology pipeline beyond Skyrizi and Rinvoq.
  • EU approvals for RINVOQ and EPKINLY in September 2026 broaden ex-U.S. revenue.
  • JUVMO launches in October 2026, adding a fresh neuroscience revenue line.

What critics are saying

  • Humira, Skyrizi, and Rinvoq concentration keeps AbbVie exposed if immunology growth slows in 2027.
  • Niaspan antitrust MDL and Biocell ALCL settlements carried $1.7 billion litigation accrual by June 2026.
  • Generic ubrogepant and atogepant suits threaten Ubrelvy and Qulipta exclusivity within years.

What makes AbbVie unique

  • Skyrizi and Rinvoq anchor AbbVie’s post-Humira immunology franchise across 11 EU RINVOQ indications.
  • JUVMO’s September 28, 2026 FDA approval gives AbbVie first-in-class Parkinson’s D1/D5 therapy.
  • AbbVie pairs blockbuster cash flows with Apogee, Iambic, and Valkai deal-making.

CDs yield 1.76% while AbbVie lifts its dividend to $1.82: which suits retirees?

AbbVie raised its quarterly dividend to $1.82 from $1.73 per share on October 30, 2026, a raise no certificate of deposit (CD) can match. The national average yield on a 12-month CD was 1.76% as of October 1, 2026, and a bank cannot cut that rate during the term. Dividends carry risk, though. Companies can cut payouts, and share prices can fall. Johnson & Johnson has raised its dividend for 64 straight years, and Procter & Gamble for 70. Tax also matters. CD interest is taxed as ordinary income, while qualified dividends face rates of 0%, 15%, or 20%. That edge disappears inside a traditional individual retirement account (IRA).

AbbVie wins FDA nod for at-home Skyrizi starts in Crohn's; sales boost seen after 60-90 days

AbbVie won US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval on October 23 for an at-home start to Skyrizi in adults with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease. Patients previously had to begin with intravenous infusions; they can now take the first doses at home with an on-body injector. By Week 12, 74% of patients new to advanced therapy reached clinical remission, against 27% on placebo. Johnson & Johnson's rival Tremfya won similar approval about 19 months earlier. Chief commercial officer Jeff Stewart said full paid access "will probably take 60 or 90 days" because insurers must approve the regimen. Sales impact should therefore come mostly after the fourth quarter. AbbVie reports third-quarter results on October 30. It guides for revenue of about $17.2 billion; Skyrizi's franchise sold $17.562 billion in 2025.
