Requirements
  • Must have graduated from an approved Medical Assistant-Certified program and have a current Medical Assistant Certified license issued by the Washington State Department of Health.

  • Must be fully proficient with Sea Mar’s patient management and electronic health record systems before the end of the probationary period.
  • Must have a Certificate of Completion from a Medical Assistant program.
  • Must be Medical Assistant-Certified or possess a Medical Assistant-Interim License and pass the examination within the 90-day probationary period.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification within 90 days of hire and maintain current certification throughout employment.
  • Must adhere to the Sea Mar Employee Health Screening Policy.
  • Must complete pre-hire and annual employee health screening.
  • Must receive the annual influenza vaccine unless an approved medical or religious exemption applies.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality and privacy and comply with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
  • Must follow medical, nursing, health and safety, personnel, treatment, infection-control, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, talk, hear, use hands, reach, frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be prepared to provide services by 8:00 a.m. each scheduled workday and support the required patient volume.
Responsibilities
  • Track and document all clinical measures and outcomes for patients in the electronic health record, including reviewing electronic health records and addressing care gaps.
  • Coordinate and process internal and external patient referrals according to established protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with providers, care coordinators, on-site integration specialists, health educators, dieticians, behavioral health specialists, referral coordinators, and care management staff.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and identify each patient’s age-specific needs and clinical measures.
  • Identify clinical needs according to diagnosis and follow clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Prepare for and participate in pre-huddles and care-team huddles by collecting forms, quality measures, laboratory and X-ray reports, patient-manager information, medication confirmations, and other visit information.
  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining subjective information and vital signs.
  • Document relevant information, care provided, and processes according to Sea Mar protocols.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms by stocking supplies and disinfecting rooms according to protocol.
  • Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections and administer oral, rectal, and inhaled medications as ordered by the provider.
  • Document medication administration according to protocol and maintain and reconcile medication and immunization data.
  • Maintain medication storage, dispensing, maintenance, and waste logs and report noncompliance to the supervisor or manager.
  • Perform required quality controls and document the results.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Report abnormal vital signs to the provider immediately.
  • Use aseptic technique and follow infection-control and standard-precaution procedures.
  • Assist with ordering department supplies.
  • Assist Nursing and Medical Assistant Supervisors with streamlining and implementing pod and patient-flow systems.
  • Complete point-of-care referrals, inform patients about specialty referrals, and provide specialist offices with required laboratory results and electronic health record notes.
  • Assist with obtaining laboratory tests and results and obtain patient notes and records from hospitals and other provider offices.
  • Use AIDET to provide customer service and escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Resolve clinical calls referred by the Medical Assistant Supervisor, Nurse Supervisor, or Nurse Manager within one business day.
  • Communicate provider and patient-flow delays to front-desk staff, the supervisor, and patients.
  • Manage biohazardous waste and assist with pharmacy requests.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the nursing functions of the electronic health record and practice-management applications.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Health, Clinical Quality Measures, Patient-Centered Medical Home, quality-improvement, and contractual requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency as a scribe when assigned that function.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Perform quality-improvement audits, participate in organizational committees, and provide shadowing opportunities for new staff when assigned.
  • Close chart notes within 24 hours of service and complete quality-care gaps for patients.
  • Support Follow My Health enrollment and the required daily patient volume.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Travel to another Sea Mar site when required by staffing and patient needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly desired.
  • Ambulatory care experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Family Medicine is preferred.
  • Ability to speak and interpret in Spanish is preferred.
